| ABOUT US
Hopwood Community Primary School is a one and a half form
entry primary school with 326 pupils on role. The school has a
continuous rolling programme for modernisation, remodelling
and refurbishment, resulting in the provision of a quality learning
environment for pupils and staff. A mezzanine floor area has been
built to house a very large computer suite and library and excellent
facilities are available for our Before and After School Club. The
school has an excellent reputation within the locality and is
regularly over-subscribed. The appointment and development
of high calibre staff is a feature of the school. We believe in
growing our own leaders and therefore offer quality professional
development opportunities to all staff at varying stages of their
careers.
The school provides a caring, carefully structured environment
which fosters positive attitudes to the pursuance of excellence.
We strive to create a relaxed yet orderly climate which enables
the children to take pleasure in their learning and pride in their
performance. Our school philosophy actively encourages the
development of a high self-esteem by first of all recognising
strengths and then encouraging a stress free approach to tackling
difficulties. The ultimate aim of the school is to meet the needs of
all its pupils in order to develop them into confident independent
learners.

| We have worked hard to produce a curriculum that is stimulating,
relevant and age-appropriate. We are conscious that our children
need to have a secure understanding of the core subjects of
English, Mathematics, Science and ICT. In addition to direct
teaching of these subjects we concentrate on their application in
the foundation subjects which are taught through themes. We
have a rich programme of visits and visitors to enrich and extend
our themes. We place a great emphasis on the “whole child”.
In practice this means catering for academic, social and personal
development. We teach our children how to stay healthy, how to
be safe, how to make informed decisions, how to solve problems
and how to make a valuable contribution to life in school and
outside school. |
| We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities which we offer
free of charge: rounders, football, five-a-side, brass band, crosscountry,
drama, dance, Art, ICT, choir. Training sessions will also
be offered by experienced sports coaches. |
| - The school has a detailed school improvement plan which is
characterised by the shared ownership and involvement of
staff and governors.
- We intend to develop further the breadth and richness of our
curriculum in response to the government’s Excellence and
Enjoyment agenda.
- We will promote opportunities to serve the community and
further develop activities to extend our school.
- We will continually strive to maximise pupil performance
achieving excellent results in the KS1 and KS2 tests.
- We will ensure that we maintain our record of high quality
teaching
- We will sustain the quality of leadership and management
We are committed to using visits and visitors to extend and
enrich pupil learning
- We will develop further “Pupil Voice”
