At St Mary’s we believe in the importance of the individual child, that all children are valued equally, and that all children have an entitlement to the best possible education. We will not tolerate negative discrimination in areas of race, creed, colour, gender or age. We believe in each child’s entitlement to the sympathetic delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum within the safe environs of a school that has a positive and caring ethos. Differences between individuals should be celebrated as an enriching element within society.

To create a happy, caring and disciplined environment, where each child can fulfill their potential educationally, socially and spiritually.

This statement requires a framework to build on. At St Mary’s we go to great lengths to encourage respect by treating the children respectfully, within a firm discipline. Children appreciate and understand firm parameters. Within the classroom situation discipline is administered fairly and consistently by the teacher. We use a positive approach so that rules are seen to be for the good of the school family.

Always encourage a team spirit - supporting each other and not "letting the side down". If teachers require a framework, we would encourage them to use withdrawal of privileges (e.g. completing work at playtime if a pupil has been time-wasting).

Any problems that re-occur should be shared with another member of staff. The Headteacher will always make time to discuss and help with such worries.

We believe in involving parents in school life. If discipline problems do re-occur the Headteacher or class teacher will contact the parents and together we will work towards helping the child gain the fullest possible benefit from school.

At the moment there are five clubs for Junior children and one for both Infants and Juniors. All take place after school from 3.30 p.m.
