ABOUT US

Centuries of Christian tradition underpin the education provided by Kirkham Grammar School, which was founded in 1549 as a charity school and celebrated its 450th Anniversary in 1999.

Kirkham Grammar School places a high priority on academic success and small teaching groups, especially during the examination years, supported by small tutor groups, thereby creating an enviable learning environment.

Added to this, the school is fortunate to be able to attract teachers of a very high quality, who work extremely hard and closely with their pupils. Academic staff work under the direction of experienced Heads of Department and Teams of Tutors are managed and supported by Heads of Lower, Middle and Upper School Sectors. Close team work plays a very important part in the success of the school.

BOARDING

The Boarding House accommodates, between the ages of 11 and 18, 75 boarders including both full boarders and weekly boarders. The House is also extensively used by day pupils for casual or short stay boarding. Resident staff include the Boarding House Master and his wife, the Matron and Assistant Matron and two other members of the academic staff who live in. In order to maintain the highest standards, we insist that the Boarding House is inspected annually by external agencies. The Boarding House, with its upgraded facilities, adds an international dimension to the school, strengthens its pastoral care and attracts talent from near and far. It is an invaluable asset which adds to the unique appeal and ethos of our school.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

At Kirkham Grammar School our overriding aim is to educate the whole person in preparation for leadership and a richness of life beyond school in society at large.

It is essential, therefore, to furnish our pupils with a breadth of opportunities designed to stimulate activities and interests, initiative, discipline, qualities of leadership, self motivation, a desire to serve others and the ability to work with and for others. The school staff are remarkably generous in their commitment to an enormous variety of well supported extra-curricular activities.
