| ABOUT US
Lancaster Royal Grammar School has a long tradition of providing excellent opportunities for boys to excel academically as well as a national reputation for sporting and other achievement. This state grammar school of around 1000 boys aged 11 – 18, including 180 boarders and a thriving sixth form of 300, achieves consistently high academic standards whilst providing a caring ethos in all aspects of school life, supported by a strong and effective pastoral system.
The School has an enviable academic record, frequently achieving the best A Level and GCSE results for any state school in the North of England.
|
| Lancaster Royal Grammar School aims to provide a balanced education for all its pupils. High standards are actively promoted in all endeavours including academic achievement. The great majority of boys engage in further academic study after leaving school and some make academic life their career. One such former student was Sir Richard Owen.
|
| At LRGS we are proud of the academic achievements of our Sixth Form students, which have always been consistently
high. Whilst we offer a diverse range of extra-curricular activities which enable our leavers to become well rounded young
men, we are also unashamedly academic and we strongly encourage all of our students to achieve the highest academic
standards possible. We expect up to three-quarters of our A-level results to be at A or B grade and almost all of our
leavers go on to university, many of them to the most competitive institutions, including 10-15 per year to Oxford and
Cambridge.
We expect Sixth Form students to play an active part in every aspect of school life, including societies, clubs and games.
We value the contribution of senior students in the running of the school and would expect almost half our Sixth Formers
to become prefects in due course.
Sixth Formers at the school have a greater degree of freedom and more privileges than boys in the Lower School. The
dress regulations for Sixth Formers are less strict (see page 6), though it is still expected that they will maintain the high
standards of personal appearance which are traditional in the School. |
| The boarding community at LRGS is readily recognised as the heart of the school and boys achieve remarkable success in all areas of school life. The school prides itself on an atmosphere where achievement is recognised, not only in the academic sphere but also in all other activities. Boarders are integrated totally into the activities of the school in addition to their own programme of Sunday activities.
|
| Lancaster RGS has a long tradition of undertaking numerous activities. In this part of the site activities are recorded which take place outside the classroom, or take place at times other than during timetabled academic lessons.
Pupils encounter many demands on their time. In the case of the school's clubs and societies, they can decide which ones to join. The clubs and societies' activities take place after school; at lunchtimes and, in some cases at weekends and during holidays.
Some of the clubs and societies operate in co-operation with Lancaster Girls' Grammar School; for example those concerned with music, drama and debating. |
