ABOUT US

Lever Edge Primary School is situated in Great Lever close to the centre of Bolton. The school was established in 1949 and the building comprises 14 classrooms, large hall with stage, dining room, kitchen, offices and a variety of small teaching rooms. There is also a self contained nursery building and language unit on the site.

There is a conservation area with the school grounds which contains different habitat-woodland, dry stone wall, hedgerows, marsh and meadow.

The school educates boys and girls from the age of four to eleven. There is also a 52 place Nursery Unit which takes children from age three on a part-time basis, until they are admitted to their chosen school. The school has no affiliation to any religious denomination. The school has fourteen classes, a Nursery Unit and a Speech and Language Additional Resourced Provision. The children will be taught for the most part by their class teacher, but occasionally by other teachers who have a special skill to offer. The children are usually organised into two parallel classes of thirty.

ETHOS

We aim to create a warm, welcoming, safe environment for visitors, staff and pupils alike. We place much emphasis on high standards of conduct and achievement by our pupils. For this reason our school encourages:

  • High moral standards and personal qualities of good character and behaviour.
  • Good personal relationships, a sense of responsibility, teamwork and loyalty.
  • Social awareness, courtesy, consideration for others and sensitivity to one’s surroundings.
  • Respect for other people’s beliefs and culture.
  • Self-awareness, independence, a knowledge of health and safety and ability to care for oneself.
  • An understanding of how to contribute to and benefit from living in a well organised community.

NATIONAL CURRICULUM

he curriculum covers everything that goes on in school. The 1988 Education Act established a National Curriculum to ensure that all pupils aged 5-16 years can receive a broad and balanced education which is relevant to their needs.

ACTIVITIES

These activities usually take place for an hour after school and are run on an entirely voluntary basis by the staff. The activities vary depending on the interests of the teachers but usually include, musical events, sport, choir, computer club, library club, art club, maths club, environmental club, brass band club and drama productions. There is a small charge for each child attending an after school club.
