ABOUT US

Little Digmoor Primary School and Nursery provides education for children from 3 to 11 years of age. The school receives an Annual Budget from which the costs for managing the buildings, personnel and resources have to be met. The Governing Body is responsible for approving the Budget.

The buildings are set in extensive and attractive grounds on the outskirts of Skelmersdale. Children who attend the school live mainly on the nearby Digmoor Estate, although there are a significant number of children who travel from further afield to attend.

The children are divided into three departments: Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two. Classes are usually organised in year groups, but occasionally mixed year group classes do occur. When this arises additional teaching support is provided.

The Nursery Unit is open for five morning sessions per week from 9.00 – 11.30 am. It can admit up to twenty five children for each session and is staffed with one teacher and one Nursery Nurse. For further information contact the school.

CURRICULUM

Little Digmoor delivers a broad and balanced, enriched National Curriculum. English, Mathematics and Science are the Core Subjects and the greatest amount of time is spent working in these areas.

The DfES has emphasised the importance of teaching ICT (Information Communication Technology, including Computers) and strengthened the teaching of Religious Education.

The remaining subjects, which make up the Primary Curriculum are History, Geography, Physical Education (PE), Art and Design, Design Technology, Music and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE).

All these areas are essential in the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum. In addition, there are some areas of study, which cut across subject boundaries such as Road Safety and Environmental Education, which are also taught at school. All schools have received information from QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority) approved by the Government for the teaching of Science, ICT, Geography, History, Design Technology and now for Music, Art and PE. We have adapted our schemes in school in order to incorporate their advice. This means that these subjects are taught through Study Units where information and skills build on each other over time.

We think that this is a good way of working. All these ideas on the curriculum are fused to form the Primary Curriculum, which is taught at school.
