All groups of children, benefit equally from a broad programme that i s enriched by a very wide range of activities outside Lessons and an effective programme of visits.
Nursery and Reception follow the Foundation Stage curriculum.
This curriculum is extremely flexible catering for children who write and count as well as for those whose main need is security and whose achievement is a degree of independence. Work is approached through structured play activities leading to directed learning.
Year 1 and Key 2 follow Key Stage One National Curriculum.
At Key Stage 1 and 2, whilst all areas of the curriculum are taught, there is a strong emphasis on subjects of English, Maths and Science. During this stage children will learn to work individually and in groups, listen attentively to questions, respond to instructions, describe events and be aware of others.
Across the school, teachers are skilful, knowledgeable, sensitive and challenging. As a result, children develop basic skills in speaking, listening, reading and Numeracy. They have self-confidence, because relationships are good and children know they are valued. Notably, even the most reticent children are drawn into the lesson by good questioning. Children have good habits, such as working hard and concentrating for long periods. ( Ofsted October 2005)
We believe in teaching children in single year groups, whenever possible. We find that the curriculum is easier to teach and the children have a better understanding of what we are trying to achieve.
