Students

Congratulations! You've joined one of the most exciting academic communities in the country. The University of Birmingham has around 26,000 students from the UK and all over the world, and it’s a great place to study.

Birmingham is a vibrant city so there's always something going on in the city and on campus.

We want your time here to be happy, rewarding and safe, and our strong network of support services offers help in all areas, from counselling to career planning.

You'll find useful information about being a student at Birmingham here: Welcome to Birmingham.

New students

Starting university is exciting and fun – but it can also be quite daunting. You'll be inundated with new people, different surroundings and quite possibly an overload of information!

We help our new students settle in to university life by providing support, advice and guidance through the Guild of Students, student mentors and a range of other support services.

Student safety, both around campus and in town, is an important issue, so be aware of steps you can take to make sure your time here is safe - and enjoy it to the full.

Registration packs, including a registration letter with computer passwords, a registration guide, student handbook and freshers leaflet will be posted out to new students over the summer. If you do not receive one by the time you come to Birmingham, the guide, handbook and leaflet are available online, and a pack can be collected from the Great Hall, Aston Webb building from Monday 18 September.

Your identity card will allow you to use the libraries, computer facilities and the Guild of Students. This will be issued to you in your first week.

There will be plenty of opportunities to join in with freshers’ activities and find your feet in the first few weeks of term. The Guild of Students runs numerous events and there is a whole variety of different activities and clubs.

Campus tours are available every Tuesday and Thursday at 11.30am and 2.00pm and you can download a map of the campus to help you find your way around.
