The halls of residence
The university owns and manages two modern, purpose built halls of residence, The Hollins and Orlando Village. Together they provide 700 single study bedrooms, each well furnished and containing carpet, curtains, bed, desk, wardrobe, storage space, easy chair and washbasin. All hall places are offered on a self-catering basis.
The Hollins is adjacent to the Chadwick campus and the Orlando Village is only ten minutes walk from the Deane campus. Both are close to all the amenities of the town centre and are convenient for rail and road links. You will find disabled students’ facilities, laundries and extensive free car parking at each hall.
Please note that the halls of residence do not provide temporary accommodation. Before moving in all residents enter a 38 week contract with the university which is both legal and binding. If you would like details of temporary accommodation to give you an opportunity to look around for something more permanent, please contact the accommodation team.
The Orlando Village consists of 383 single study bedrooms and is conveniently situated for both the Deane and Chadwick teaching sites and the town centre. The hall has eight blocks of accommodation, each containing 8 flats, with 6 bedrooms per flat. Each flat has a kitchen/meeting area with microwave oven, hob, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle and food storage space. There are ample bathroom and shower facilities and internet access is available in all bedrooms.
The Hollins, built adjacent to the Chadwick campus, has 318 single study bedrooms in three accommodation blocks. Two blocks have 18 flats and the smallest block has 6 flats, with between six and nine bedrooms per flat. Each has its own kitchen/meeting area, which includes cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and food storage space. There are ample bathroom and shower facilities.
Internet access is available in all bedrooms.
Rooms cost £60.00 per week and include heating, lighting and hot water. All rooms in the halls of residence are let on a 40 week contract (£2,400). The Licence Agreement that you receive with your room offer will list the conditions of occupancy and the procedures for payment. The university offers a discount scheme, saving students £100 if the accommodation fees are paid in full at the start of the academic year. Full details of the payment arrangements are given with the Licence Agreement.
