- Writing skills
- Essay planning
- Note- taking techniques
- Examination and revision techniques
- Structuring your written work
- Enhancing critical thinking, evaluative and analytical skills
- Coping with study-related stress
- Time management
Small group workshops and individual tutorial support are available (by appointment).
How to access the service
(a) Read through the advice in the ‘Studying for Success’ booklet (available free from Learning Resources).
(b) A large collection of books, videos and audio-cassettes is kept in a separate section of Learning Resources.
(c) Review the material available to students on IBIS.
Advice & Guidance:
(a) Attend a workshop – details available from the LSS staff based in the Library (on both campuses) and published on IBIS and departmental notice boards.
(b) Make an appointment with a member of the LSS team based in the Library. Contact details, telephone extensions, room numbers, and times available will be published on the door of the LSS (on both campuses) and on the IBIS intranet site. Arrange a time and venue which suits you both. It is often useful if you can provide examples of your work in advance of the meeting.
Please remember that at busy times (e.g. close to assessment deadlines) it may not be possible to make an appointment with your chosen team member immediately. It is important to plan your work early so that you avoid having to seek support from the LSS tutors at the last minute. Be sure to start working on your assignments as early as feasible.
