Faculty of Business, Environment and Society

This Faculty was created in August 2005 following a restructuring of the University's academic provision. At the heart of this Faculty is Coventry Business School, which was one of Europe's largest business schools. The new Faculty aims to build upon the past achievements.

The Faculty of Business, Environment and Society is the home of a wide variety of academic subject areas with excellent teaching and applied research expertise. These subject areas are grouped into a number of schools and departments:

  • Coventry Business School
  • Coventry Law School
  • School of International Studies & Social Science
  • Department of Geography, Environment & Disaster Management.

Faculty of Engineering and Computing

This Faculty was created through the merger of three Schools within Coventry University:

  • School of Engineering
  • School of Mathematical and Information Sciences
  • The Built Environment Subject Group from the School of Science and Environment.

The Faculty offers over 100 different courses, including HND, Foundation, BSc, BEng, MSc, MBA and MDes, as well as a range of research programmes. Courses are contained within eight main subject areas:

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

Bringing together Coventry University's academic provision of Health and Life Sciences, this Faculty was formed in August 2005. It offers a wide range of courses from undergraduate level through to degrees by research. The Faculty is divided into the following seven departments:

  • Biological and Molecular Sciences
  • Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiology and Sports Science
  • Physiotherapy and Dietetics
  • Psychology
  • Social and Community Studies

Approximately 60% of the Faculty's work is linked to NHS contracts. Staff engage in a variety of research and consultancy activities focused in: subjects allied to Medicine; Psychology; Nursing and Midwifery; and Biomedical, Environmental, Public and Community Health.

School of Art and Design

Founded in 1843, the School of Art and Design has a long established reputation for excellence that is constantly reaffirmed in the everyday activities of this vibrant part of Coventry University. School of Lifelong Learning

The School of Lifelong Learning is a product of Coventry University's desire to excel in vocational and professional learning, building upon the previous Centre's successes and portfolio. The School now offers:

  • a portfolio of over 100 programmes which range from short courses to part-time degrees

Centre for the Study of Higher Education

The Centre for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE) (previously known as the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED)) undertakes research, development and consultancy in academic practice, in relation to:

  • teaching and learning, including online learning and WebCT support;
  • research; and
  • leadership and management.

We offer a full postgraduate programme in learning and teaching in higher education, including a postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching for new lecturers and a number of Master’s awards. We also offer the opportunity to undertake a PhD in aspects of academic policy and practice.

CSHE undertakes applied research in higher education practice, particularly in relation to the development of the higher level capabilities of learners of all kinds, whether staff, students or clients. Our research themes are:

  • professional learning;
  • learning in academic work;
  • e-learning; and
  • academic writing.

CSHE is home to the iPED network, which works with staff across the University to develop pedagogic research capabilities. CSHE also hosts the Centre for Academic Writing, which supports both students and staff.
