About...
Beaudesert Lower School is situated on the edge of the busy market town of Leighton Buzzard, but is within easy reach of the town centre.
Leighton Buzzard together with Linslade (its neighbouring town) has approximately 33,670 inhabitants. The town is continuing to grow with new housing developments under construction and others planned. It is situated in the south west of Bedfordshire and is easily accessible from the A5 trunk Road (12 miles south of the city of Milton Keynes).
The school is set in very pleasant surroundings in Appenine Way. It has a long history but has been located on this site for the last 20 years.
The administration area is at the front of the school and comprises school office, Head Teachers office and a base for Special Needs teaching. Nearby are the staff room, resources area, stock cupboard, staff toilets and disabled toilet.
The school hall is off the entrance hall and is equipped with P.E. apparatus. Each pair of classrooms share a quiet room for small group work. Key stage groups each have an activity area for art, design and technology, etc.
A computer suite has been completed for use from September 2002 and interactive white boards are now being fitted in the library and certain classrooms. A projector in the computer suite is used for whole class teaching and demonstration purposes.
The Reception class has a large open plan classroom, with a quiet room and a separate outside play area. The school is very fortunate to have a large playground with playing field and adventure trail.
Using our site to full advantage as an outdoor classroom we have now completed a sensory garden at the front of the building, and have just designed a school allotment for each class to experience growing their own vegetables which will then be cooked for them by our kitchen manager.
History
During the Millennium year, a group of parents from Beaudesert took part in The Clutch Club Millennium Award Scheme. The main aim of the project was to improve parents ICT skills through community history research. The group developed a web site dedicated to the history of Beaudesert from the 1800's to the Millennium year. Although the site is slightly out of date now, it is still well worth a visit. It is incredibly informative and provides insight into how school life has changed but also in many respects has stayed the same. The Beaudesert Clutch Club web site
The Clutch Club web site lists 60 of the local projects set up through schools at this time which include lots of photographs, documents and stories. It can be visited through the link below.

School Curriculum and Related Matters
The School’s curriculum statement has been agreed by the Governing Body and is in accord with the County Curriculum Statement. It describes the overall aims of the School’s curriculum and is summarised as follows. Appropriate opportunities exist for pupils to receive a balanced and broadly based curriculum, as required under Part 1, Chapter 1 of the Education Reform Act 1988. The school is following the national literacy and numeracy strategy. The Oxford Reading Tree is the main reading scheme supplemented by many and various other scheme and non-scheme books. Phonic skills are also developed from an early stage in Year R. A variety of materials is used to cover language (English), mathematics, science and problem solving. Children are actively encouraged to make use of the school’s well-stocked library both for work and pleasure. Government recommended Schemes of Work are being incorporated for all subjects except Science where we use the County guidelines.
