Welcome!
On behalf of the students, teachers and governors of Biddenham, I extend to you a warm and cordial welcome. A website can never do justice to the life and vitality of a school but I hope some of the 'feel' of Biddenham comes through these pages. We are a friendly and purposeful school community and we are committed to the full personal, social and intellectual growth of each student in our care.
I came to the school because at its heart there is a strong committment to multi-cultural living. I passionately believe that the new century will see this country become culturally rich and diverse. It will become a place where people are able to build strong confident identities of what it means to be British and yet have social and cultural origins from all over the world.
We also believe that pursuing these aims will give our students a distinct advantage. As technology improves, the world is growing smaller and bringing people closer together. Those who have the skills and social sensitivities to work and be at ease in this new 'global village' , will have an edge over those who have pursued a more mono-cultural education. Biddenham makes a unique contribution to education in Bedfordshire in that it provides, and will increasingly provide, its students with that 'edge'.
We hope that you are inspired by this vision and that you are able to visit us soon, either at one of our open evenings or during the day, to see classes working and meet with students and teachers. In the meantime we send you all our best wishes.

Biddenham Upper School Year 9-11 Uniform Code
(Revised by the Governors in September 2003 following Sports College designation)
In a diverse school like ours, ways of unifying the community are very important, and at Biddenham uniform is a key factor. So that this impacts positively on self-image, we have adopted a ‘feel smart-think smart' blazer-based uniform, and therefore a strict uniform code.
As a general guideline, uniform should be worn in a way that would be acceptable in an adult working environment where people come into contact with members of the public. Uniform should be worn correctly from leaving home to returning home in the evening, and in school at all times unless directed otherwise.
Basic uniform requirements are set out below. Uniform should be clean, smart and worn in a traditional way, which avoids adornments and extremes of fashion*.
Boys' Uniform
- Navy blue blazer with school badge
- White shirt and school tie
- Black trousers
- Traditional black shoes (maximum 2”/5cm heels)
- Optional blue V-neck sweater with school badge
Girls' Uniform
- Navy blue blazer with school badge
- White shirt and school tie
- Black trousers or black/navy blue skirt (maximum 2”/5cm above knee)
- Traditional black shoes (maximum 2”/5cm heels)
- Optional blue V-neck sweater with school badge
- Optional plain white ankle or calf-length socks or plain, dark or flesh coloured tights
- Navy blue shalwar kamiz worn with tie or hejab
Standard PE Kit
- Navy blue Biddenham polo top (with school crest and SSC logo)
- Navy blue tracksuit bottoms (with SSC logo)
- Long claret socks (winter) and white socks (summer)
- Optional choice of four training tops: tracksuit top, fleece, sweatshirt or rain jacket (all with school crest and SSC logo)
- Non-marking trainers
- Optional astro turf boots and studded boots
All PE kit should be clearly labelled with the student's name. Currently kit containing the SSC logo is only available from the school.
Other Uniform Items
- Outdoor coats should be plain and dark in colour, and not worn in classrooms or the dining room
- Scarves and hats should be plain and dark in colour
- Jewellery – single items of jewellery are permitted (watch, necklace, bracelet, nose stud) and a small sleeper or stud earring in each ear; these must be removed for PE and other lessons as appropriate. (Other body piercings and visible tattoos/adornments are not permitted.)
- If used, makeup should be applied naturally and subtly so as to be barely noticeable
(*Governors and student representatives have endorsed a supplement to this code where students or parents/carers seek greater clarification.)
