About Us
Dame Alice Harpur School moved to its current location on Cardington Road in 1938 and enjoys a spacious riverside location along the banks of the Great River Ouse providing a pleasant working environment for pupils and staff alike which combines the advantages of peace and quiet with proximity to the heart of Bedford.
Dame Alice Harpur School provides a wide ranging education for girls from ages 7 to 18, with each section of the School offering different opportunities and challenges within a coherent and consistent framework. We are part of The Harpur Trust group of independent schools in Bedford consisting of:
Our teaching is geared to the specific learning needs of girls, and, academically, our girls do exceptionally well, fulfilling their potential and achieving results of which they can feel proud. Each girl is supported and guided to be her best, and we acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of all girls who do so. In recent years around 65% of GCSE are at the A*/A grades with around 99% of passes at Grades A to C. At A level, the School has had a pass rate of 99%, with around 70% obtaining the top pass rates of A/B grades.
The very full programme of extra-curricular activities ensures that girls have the chance to discover and develop their talents in a range of areas, including Music, Sport and Drama, and the healthy self-esteem which results from these achievements helps the girls to feel good about themselves and to be comfortable and happy at school. Our position within the Harpur Trust also ensures that the girls have a wide range of co-educational extra-curricular opportunities.
Welcome
Choosing the right school for your daughter is one of the most important decisions you will make as a parent. At Dame Alice, we work in partnership with you to ensure that your daughter is happy, successful and confident, building a foundation for her future personal and professional challenges. We will help your daughter to discover where her talents lie, and to make the most of them.
Dame Alice girls achieve success in a wide variety of areas and this success is recognised and celebrated. We are fully committed to single-sex eduction for girls. Years of experience have taught us that the single-sex environment, where the focus is firmly on girls and the way girls learn, yields impressive results at all levels, both within and beyond the classroom.
We hope that this website will give you a taste of what life at Dame Alice is like, but there is no substitute for a personal visit and you and your daughter are warmly invited to come and see our school for yourselves.
I look forward to meeting you.
