About Us
Dowery Down Lower School is a single-storey, light, airy building erected in 1968.To the west the grounds include a beautiful glade of deciduous and evergreen trees. To the east is the school field, which is used for games and play in good weather. South of the building is a hard surface playground, as well as a fenced hard surfaced court for PE/Games lessons, named Poplar Place by the School Council.
Adventure climbing apparatus is situated on safe bark chippings under the trees, which the children play on under adult supervision.
This lovely setting of the school is an inspiration for nature and environmental studies of many kinds. The woodland is used to bring to life scientific study as well as fun events such as the annual Easter Egg hunt.
There are three entrances to the school. From Poplar Close, by footpath from Copperbeech Way and a footpath alongside the service road from Heath Road. There is a parking area on the field.
The building has a central hall and a dining area with two classroom wings attached, a kitchen and an administrative suite.
Each classroom is self-contained, having its own quiet space, cloakrooms and internal toilets, which were replaced and updated during the summer of 2004. Every classroom has an external door for ease of entrance and exit.
