OUR SCHOOL

Edward Peake School was named in honour of a local philanthropist who, in the days when education was by no means a right for our local children, made a permanent bequest by which a school teacher could be paid and children from poor families receive an education.

Although little else is known about Edward Peake, it is right that his generosity and far-sightedness is commemorated in the name of our school. Edward Peake Middle School has served the communities of Biggleswade, Caldecote, Dunton, Northill and Ickwell for over thirty years and has always had a reputation for inclusiveness.

How we are organised:

As you would expect, children arriving at age 9 at Edward Peake are put in the care of a class teacher.  Unlike the system they will have been used to in their lower school, however, they will only be with their class teacher for relatively short periods. This is because in middle school we are able to provide specialist subject teaching in purpose-built rooms for Art, the Technologies, Music, Science and Physical Education. In addition to this, they will be grouped into sets by ability for Numeracy and Literacy.

We do not find that most children experience difficulty with these changes, and their continued daily contact with their class teacher, who will probably take them for two or more subjects, enables a close relationship to develop. Should problems arise, the class teacher is always the best person to contact in the first instance, as they are the person most likely to know your child well.
