Welcome from the Headteacher, Martin Fletcher!
Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College is a local education authority maintained school for students aged 13 – 19. It is non-denominational and fully comprehensive in its intake. It is also a Community College that enables adults to take part in our expanding programme of activities throughout the day and evening.
Hastingsbury aims to maximise the achievement of all students by emphasising the importance of high standards and high expectations. We are committed to treating all our students as individuals, closely monitor their progress and regularly praise their successes as we believe that students gain more in an atmosphere that is supportive and caring, yet is clear in its expectations and standards. Our mission statement, “Finding Talent in Everyone” reflects this commitment.
Our curriculum is intellectually challenging and enjoyable but at the same time provides appropriate pathways that match the interests and aspirations of our students. We offer a broad range of academic and vocationally based courses within Key Stage 4 and Post 16, into which the majority of our year 11 students continue their studies.
As Bedfordshire’s first Business and Enterprise College we provide specialist courses and experiences in Mathematics, Information Technology and Business-related subjects. Our innovative focus on Enterprise is improving standards of achievement through actively engaging students in their own learning and boosting their self-esteem by fostering a sense of self-belief and confidence. We work hard to sustain a “can-do” culture where the contributions of all are valued and celebrated.
We also believe in the power of partnerships with home and with members of the local, wider and international community and vigorously promote these in order to help achieve our aims. In September 2006, Hastingsbury was the first upper school in Bedfordshire to achieve the British Council’s International School Award which has led to the development of partnerships with schools in India, Africa and the Netherlands and to work with other schools in Cyprus, Sweden, Malaysia, China, Germany and the Ukraine.
Hastingsbury is at an exciting stage of its development on its journey of continuous improvement. Our percentage A*-C achievement at GCSE has risen by 16% over the last three years and we know we can achieve even better through the enterprising ways of leading, learning and teaching that we are already developing. As we move into a new era of educational reform, we are confident that our enterprising approaches will enable us meet the challenges of the new 14-19 curriculum and to ensure that all our students are well equipped to take their part in society as effective employees, life-long learners and responsible citizens.
We look to appoint staff who share our vision and who are committed to achieving the highest possible standards of education and achievement for the young people of Kempston in a collaborative learning environment that find the talent in everyone.
