School Aims
Our broad aim is to provide opportunity for self development and self fulfilment for the children here, to enable them to realise their full potential. To be more specific, however, this school seeks to pass on to each new generation of children the knowledge, skills, ideas and feelings which are judged necessary to make it possibloe to live - and live well - in our society. Societies change, however, and in our modern times they change quicly. It follows then that we need to provide not only experiences which enable children to grasp the essentials of this world as it is, but also experiences which will make them ready to fulfil themselves in a world which is likely to be different from today's. Therefore, the school stands not only for tradition and conformity, but also for the future and a willingness to accept, and at times stimulate, fresh thoughts and ideas. "There are very good opportunities for personal development within the curriculum, in the day-to-day life of the School, and through extra-curricular activities." Ofsted 2000.
Organisation
The school is organised into four National Curriculum age groups, namely Years 5, 6, 7 and 8, each led by a Head of Year who is responsible for co-ordinating the work and the welfare of the children within that age group. Each age group is divided up into classes, each under the control of a teacher who has direct responsibility for the pastoral care and the work programme of their class. In addition each age group has the support of the members of specialist staff, offering skills in particular areas of the curriculum. Arrangements are made so that pupils, including the very able and less able may receive appropriate individual attention. As the children progress through the school they may spend increasingly more tiemw ith specialist teachers. However, they will always retain the concept of having one particular teacher having overall responsibility for them. "Pupils enjoy School and take part in activities with enthusiasm, both in lessons and at lunchtime or after School." "The School is looked after well and has a pleasant and orderly atmosphere which encourages good attitudes and behaviour." Ofsted 2000.
