Attendance and punctuality are always a great concern for us. We would like to encourage parents and children to ensure that they arrive at school on time and in a punctual manner. Our Home School Community Liaison Officer, Mrs Addrine Barry, is always hot on punctuality and absence. If you wish to discuss your child's attendance or punctuality, see below for Mrs Barry's details.
Also if we have been unable to contact parents regarding their attendance or punctuality, we have been making home visits to try to establish a relationship that can benefit both the school and the parents and children. It is in everybody's interest to know why children are late or not in school. One of our parents was given an alternative route to get their children in to school as they were persistently late. Guess what - a gold star goes out to that parent whose children have now been consistently on time for school.
Also, if your child is off school for any reason, we would ask that you telephone the school before 9.25am to advise for the reason for the absence. You can also email us at email@example.com. This means that the school does not have to telephone you to find out why your child is not at school. We have a process of sending our three letters if we have not received a call from you regarding your child's absence. The first letter comes home with your child, the second we have to send out in the post as does the third letter come out in the post to you. Please try to ensure you advise us as early on regarding any absence so as not to incur a postage charge for the school. We thank you for your continued support in these situations. If we are unable to contact you, this absence goes down as unauthorised. 10 unauthorised absences, ie five mornings and five afternoons (yes, just one week) means that the LEA will be looking at sending out a Penalty Notice and Fine - £50 per child per parent.
If you want some help and advice about how to get your children in to school on time, or how to improve your child's attendance, then you can always contact our Home School Community Liaison Officer, Mrs Addrine Barry, who will be more than happy to help you to help us to help your children improve their attendance and puntucality. Taking your child out of school
If for any reason you need to take your child out of school, you will need to make an appointment to see the Head Teacher to get authority to do this. The decision to allow or not allow such absences will, in the majority, depend on your child's attendance.
If you do not make the necessary appointment to see our Home School Liaison Officer, Mrs Addrine Barry, before taking your child out school, then this absence will be classed as unauthorised and will be reported to the Education Welfare Officer.
You also need to give us a good period of notice of taking your child out of school. Ideally we would like a week's notice of any such absence which would allow us to ensure you could get to see Mrs Barry.
