Year 2

Counting in different steps ? 2, 5, 10, 3, 4.

Becoming quick with number bonds and doubles eg 6+6=12, 60+60=120.

Learning to tell the time o`clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and solving problems.

Count at home forwards and backwards.

Display ways of making 10 or 20 and practise. Ask quick double questions e.g. 7+7=14.

Look at time/clock with your child, encourage them to learn bed times, tea times using o?clock and half past.

Literacy

Writing stories, developing joined handwriting.

Reading stories, poems and instructions

Write stories together, make up stories verbally.

Read daily 5 ? 10 mins.

Practise weekly spellings

Science

Learning about how materials change when heated and cooled.

Cooking, making salt dough. Investigating ice and seeing which changes are reversible e.g. water ? ice ? water .  Naming materials and sorting them which are found naturally (stone) or manufactured (plastics)

Cook, make toast etc and discuss changes.  Can it be turned back?

Name materials on your walk to school, where do they come from e.g. wood fence from trees.  Bring materials into school.

Geography

Learning about the seaside and its features (pier, promenade). Using maps, atlases to find and name different holiday destinations. Learning countries and cities of the British Isles.

Look at maps, atlases at home.  Learn their address and find the British Isles/England. Bring in seaside artefacts e.g. shells, postcards.

Art

Printing using tiles to make a repeating picture. 

Drawing fruits, vegetables, flowers carefully

Look at patterns at home e.g. on wrapping paper, curtains. Make patterns printing, drawing, computer etc

 

Year 1

Numeracy

Recalling pairs of numbers to 10.  Recall doubles of numbers.  Add and subtract using +, - and = horizontally.  Add and subtract small numbers in their heads.  Looking at o?clock and half past on an analogue clock.

Recite days of the week and months of the year.  Talk about seasons.  Help children to learn their birthday.

Use dice for doubles of numbers.

Literacy

Looking at common spelling patterns.  Writing in simple sentences.  Correct letter formation.  Reading a variety of stories, rhymes and non fiction.

Help children to learn their weekly spellings.  Encourage children to start letters in the correct place.  Share books frequently and talk about what has happened in them.

Science

Naming and locating parts of the body

Send in pictures of people of all ages

Geography

Knowing own address.

Walk to Putteridgebury Park

Help children to learn their own address.
