The school prides itself on high academic standards. Children work in small groups according to their ability – this allows each child to develop at their own pace. Emphasis is placed on skills in Literacy, Numeracy and Science but to develop fully children need to experience a broad curriculum. IT skills are integrated into each subject.

Juniors are taught by specialist subject teachers

Children learn French from the age of 4 years – at this stage emphasis is on oral skills. Games, songs and rhymes all add to the fun of learning.

By year 6 their oral skills in French are complemented by written and listening exercises.

Children absorb knowledge readily and we know how important it is to keep children motivated. New ideas, fresh experiences, events in school and outside visits provide additional stimulation.

School Life

The Cedars School

Tudor Day

Developing an awareness of the world around us begins by learning about our village. Aldermaston is steeped in history; our school was built in 1897 by Charles Edward Keyser who was Lord of The Manor of Aldermaston.

Physical activities are an important part of education. Sport teaches self- discipline, team spirit, competition and fair play – in addition children learn how to maintain physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Children are able to develop confidence and self-expression through drama, music and art and craft. They are important activities, which help develop, balanced well-rounded individuals.

Children find they have many skills and that these can be shared with others.

New Beginnings

Starting school is a major step in a child’s life. Children learn best when they are happy and secure. The Cedars provides a kind and friendly environment in which children can learn skills needed for life.

Enquiring minds enjoy the stimulation provided by ‘hands on’ activities. Planting seeds, watching them grow and then eating home-grown lettuce and tomato sandwiches makes for a memorable experience!

The Cedars School

Social interaction is an important part of a child’s development.

"Our potatoes come from the supermarket"

Children of all ages learn to work and play together.

Imagination is fired by a range of games, dressing up clothes, home corner, painting, cooking, modelling, construction activities, colourful books and a stimulating classroom displaying children’s work.

We place much importance upon the moral and social development of your child. Children learn to respect one another and to practise tolerance and understanding. Education takes place in an atmosphere where Christian values and qualities are upheld.

Academic development and social welfare are monitored closely and parents are kept informed of these developments by both formal and informal methods.

A system of written reports and parents’ appointments are the formal means of recording development, but we pride ourselves on keeping you fully informed of your child’s progress throughout the year.

Communication between home and school is important to us, and parents are welcomed into school each day. Regular newsletters allow you to learn of school activities, the children’s achievements and of the many events taking place in school. There is an active Parents Association.
