I am delighted that you have taken the time to look at The Elvian School website. The school is currently small with 150 pupils with the intention to grow over the next few years to 400 pupils. The school is an Independent, Co-educational, Non-selective day school.
We opened in September 2004 and are part of the Licensed Trade Charity group of schools, which has been operating for over 200 years. Our sister school in Ascot has been in the top 100 schools for the last two years for value added and we have adopted the same educational values in this school. |
Mrs. S. Manser |
We operate under the ethos of ensuring that all pupils fulfil their potential in a happy family environment where the individual matters. As a small school we are able to ensure that every child is treated as an individual and that their strengths are encouraged whether they are in the field of sport, music, drama or academic study. Although, as with all schools, we want all our pupils to do their very best in the academic field, we also want all our pupils to play a significant part within our community – by contributing to the life of the school.
I have a clear vision on teaching and learning and to this end I am determined that pupils should be engaged in active learning as this makes a significant impact on their knowledge of the subject. We have a range of trips which run as part of the curriculum entitlement to again put learning into context – these include geography field trips, language trips, museum visits, musical experiences (covering all aspects of this creative area) as well as theatre visits and many sporting opportunities. The school has enjoyed success in the Art field this year winning three first places in the ISA London West Art competition and these pieces going forward to the National competition where we achieved a First place in the Under 14 category.
Our extra curricular programme is extensive and gives pupils the opportunity to further develop their talents – many older pupils organise events and activities for younger members of our community. We support many charities – both locally and across the world – through a range of school events organised and supported by the pupils. Our assembly and Citizenship programme also focus on developing an understanding of the needs of others.
All aspects of school life contribute to our mission statement of Developing Caring Confident Citizens for the Future.
I have worked for the Licensed Trade Charity for the past seven years previously being based in the Ascot School as the Deputy Head. I moved to The Elvian School in September 2004 – I continue to teach a range of year groups through to examination level.
We hold a range of Open days and information evenings during the academic year to which you are warmly invited. Many families see me on an individual basis and this can be arranged through my secretary. |

The Elvian School Nursery : The Foundation Stage for children aged 3-5Boys and Girls are welcome to join us at 3 years old.
The children's days are based around learning through play. The children are often unaware that they are learning because it is hidden within a fun activity. Time outside and quiet time allows them to use their imaginations and absorb the topics that have been covered during the day.
The curriculum for the Foundation stage (3-5 years) underpins the children’s learning by promoting and developing six areas of learning: Personal and Social Development, Language and Literacy, and Communication, Mathematics, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development. There are opportunities for children to engage in activities planned by adults and also those that they plan or initiate themselves.
The nursery offers a high staff to pupil ratio, and a qualified teacher is able to give individual attention, supported by a nursery nurse.
The nursery teacher includes French as a regular part of the curriculum and a visiting teacher gives music lessons to children.
As part of the wider school community, we are able to enjoy the tree lined grounds and facilities. There is a dedicated safe playground which is separated from the rest of the school.
The teaching day starts at 9 am and ends at 3.15 pm. Supervised care is available before and after school (from 8 am to 4pm) at no extra cost. Children may attend on a full or part time basis. The nursery operates term time only.
The Elvian school also has an Infant and Junior Department should children wish to continue their education with us.
We look forward to hearing from you. Visits and enquiries are welcome.
Useful Information
The Early Years Educational Grant is available to all three and four year olds and is paid directly by The Local Authority. We are registered as a child care provider and therefore can be off set against working tax credit child care fees. We accept boys and girls into our nursery from the term after their third birthday. We can only accept children who are dry during the day as we do not have nappy changing facilities. (We expect the occasional accident!)
Pupils do not wear school uniform but are encouraged to wear clothes in which they can move freely. The children will need a pair of trainers or pumps for P.E.
The Elvian School is run by The Licensed Trade Charity, discounts on fees are available and bursaries of up to 100% for children of people working within the licensed drinks trade. |

The Elvian Preparatory School
We welcome boys and girls aged 5-11 years to our preparatory school department (key stages 1 and 2), years 1-6.
We develop the whole child through an enriched curriculum. This has at its base the National Curriculum subjects; English, maths, science, ICT, geography, history, music, art, design and technology, P.E. and R.E. Learning experiences are broadened and interest is developed through educational visits using the school minibuses to a wide variety of places. Our aim is to promote effective and enjoyable learning.
Small classes enable every child to receive a generous amount of individual attention. We are able to fulfil the educational needs of each pupil to enable them to achieve their potential and everyone is encouraged to do their best, whatever their innate abilities. Good working skills are fostered, as are creativity, thinking skills, independence and exploration. We value the effort and achievement of each child in areas such as co-operation, sharing and respecting the opinions and rights of others.
We use and enjoy the extensive, tree-lined grounds both for recreation and as part of some of our lessons. For example, we often use the school environment as part of our science lessons. A visiting teacher gives violin lessons to all pupils and musical instrument lessons are available.
The teaching day starts at 9a.m. and ends at 3.15p.m. Supervised care is available before and after school (8a.m. to 4.m.) at no extra cost.
We are happy to meet prospective parents |
Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9)
In Years 7 to 9 we endeavour to provide a broad and balanced curriculum. The emphasis is firmly on the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Physical Education. We also place an emphasis on the early development of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills, which can then be intergrated into each subject. On this solid foundation are built foreign languages, technologies, humanities and creative arts. The curriculum is supported by educational visits to museums, art galleries, sporting events, musical performances, shows and historical sites.
In addition to the excellent academic programme offered at key stage 3, we provide a range of extra-curricular activities which include CCF, chess, bridge, sailing, film club, art club and judo.
The school day starts at 8.50am and finishes at 4.00pm. For students who wish to stay after 4.00pm, a homework club is available until 5.15pm.
We are always happy to arrange visits to the school and "sampler" days for potential pupils. |
