Deighton Primary replaced Earl Street Infant
and Junior School in 1984.
The doors of Deighton opened on a sunny
June morning,letting in fresh faced children to
its brick built modern surroundings.What was
left behind was a school that had served its
community for 107 years.
Earl Street in comparison first let children through its doors on
24th October 1877.An extract from Earl Street Log Book for 23rd
October 1877 reads: "Mr Hogg,the Inspector for the Bedwellty
Board visited the school (i.e. the school then being held in the Town Hall).He told us to march to the new school(at Earl Street) at 2.30 tomorrow."

Our school is situated in the valley town of Tredegar,in the county of
Blaenau Gwent,South Wales.
We are one of five schools that feed our local Comprehensive school,
four of them like ourselves are Primary,the other is Junior,which itself is
fed by a separate Infant school.
Deighton Primary is a modern building being constructed in the early
1980's.It is based on a Roman Villa design,with classrooms centred
around a courtyard. |

Deighton Primary offers a broad and balanced
curriculum that has been set to the needs of the school.
The atmosphere of the school is warm,friendly and
caring.
