Welcome to our school

Our School

Headteacher's Welcome

“Creative thinkers for life”

We know exactly the kind of education we are aiming to give your children throughout their seven years with us ... an education that develops skills for learning.

We have developed our own twelve learning principles that embody how we teach and learn at Ashton Gate. Everything we do is based on our shared belief in teaching and learning by doing, in a life-affirming way. We aim to make learning real, relevant, and exciting!

ADMISSION

The curriculum for early years

Each child has a spark in him/her. It is the responsibility of the people and institutions around each child to find what would ignite that spark.
Howard Gardner

At Ashton Gate we feel this is our main task: to ignite the spark in your child; to bring enthusiasm, understanding and sensitivity to them as they start out in their school lives. We nurture and cherish the individual in each child. The best way to do this in the early years is to give them as many open opportunities as we can.

Young children learn best through play, first-hand experience, and talk.
The Early Childhood Education Forum

Children in the Nursery and Reception classes follow the curriculum for the Foundation Stage, which has an emphasis on learning through play and building self-confidence. The curriculum has six areas of learning, each one interwoven to educate the whole child.

Out of School Care

To contact the award winning After school Club click here

Ashton Gate Out of School Care has been developed to support parents and carers by providing wraparound care for children aged four to eleven.

We run a Breakfast Club, an After School Club and Holiday Playschemes.

We have a small team of trained and dedicated Playworkers who are committed to providing high-quality care in a child-centred play setting that promotes equality of opportunity for all.

We are registered with, and regulated by Ofsted. A copy of our registration certificate will be on display in the setting at all times.

For further information on any of the Out of School Care clubs or schemes please follow the links above, pop in for an informal chat with Hannah (Playcentre Manager), or give us a call on 0117 983 3426.

Latest Nursery Newsletter

It is a special time being 3 and 4 years old! The world is opening up and beginning to be understood. We would like to give your child a wonderful addition to their daily routine when they come to our Nursery. We hope that we can extend their imagination, give them many opportunities to explore, to play together with other children, to gain friends, knowledge and a sense of excitement about what learning has to offer. We place great emphasis on providing a warm, happy, relaxed and yet professional environment, which we hope makes you feel welcome as a whole family.

As a parent you are very welcome in the Nursery: come and help during the session, join in any of the special projects, come with the children on school trips, share any skills you may have that you think would benefit the children. The Nursery team welcomes chats when you bring or collect your children each session. We welcome, and try to give, as much information as possible, so that we all know your child really well, and so provide a really enriching start to school life.

Reception

We plan the Reception year as a transition year from Nursery to National Curriculum in Year 1 and phase the children in gently. Much of the first term's activities will be familiar to them, but in a larger setting.

We all believe very strongly in our logo, 'Creative thinkers for life', and aim to make it a reality in the way we plan the daily activities for the children, so that they will develop their imagination, their ability to think for themselves, and their self-confidence to embrace all the opportunities available to them in life.

As a parent you are very welcome in the school. There is always a plea for help in many areas, and an open invitation for you to come and share any special skills or talents you may have which would enrich the children's experience.
