Welcome to the Cotham School Website

On behalf of the Students, Staff and Governors, I take great pleasure in welcoming you to our website. Cotham has an excellent reputation that has been created through the academic achievement of its students over many years. We have an outstanding examination record at GCSE and A Level, amongst the very best in the city. We have a flourishing Post 16 Centre, the North Bristol Post 16 Centre, that we share with Redland Green School; there are nearly four hundred students on academic programmes.

We are also a Specialist Performing Arts School and have a rich and varied provision of drama, dance and music and we believe that these areas are vital in developing the social, emotional and personal skills of our students.

    Inclusion

Cotham School is an inclusive community that makes provision for a wide variety of needs.

The school recognises that some students will have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majorityof their peers.  This includes students who have learning difficulties, a physical disability,  or social, emotional or behavioural concerns and for whom factors within the students themselves, or their environment, may prevent them from achieving their full potential.

    Learning Support

Learning support is offered to children who are experiencing significant difficulty in accessing the curriculum because of a weakness in literacy or numeracy.

Learning Support is based in the Learning Centre .  This a  purpose built facility in the heart of the Cotham Site.

The Centre is staffed by a SENCo, two part time teachers and a team of six LSAs.

If you would like to find out about the sort of support that we offer, to look around the Centre, or to talk to our SENCo (Mike Parsons), please make contact via our direct line 0117 919 8045 or by email.

We also believe that learning support is most effective when delivered in partnership with parents. To this end, a Parent Group has been set up to enable parents of children who need support for learning to meet each other, discuss mutual concerns and occasionally invite visiting speakers.

    Student and Family Support

Welcome to Student and Family Support at Cotham! The information on this page is currently being developed and it will be available within the next few weeks. If you have any queries please contact Debbie Price (Student and Family Support Coordinator) on 0117 9198007 or email priced@cotham.bristol.sch.uk.

    Admissions

    Dear Parents and Carers,

On behalf of the Students, Staff and Governors, I take great pleasure in welcoming you to our website.  Cotham has an excellent reputation that has been created through the academic achievement of its students over many years.  We have an outstanding examination record at GCSE and A Level, amongst the very best in the city.  We have a flourishing Post 16 Centre, the North Bristol Post 16 Centre, that we share with Redland Green School; there are nearly four hundred students on academic programmes.

We are also a Specialist Performing Arts College and have a rich and varied provision of drama, dance and music and we believe that these areas are vital in developing the social, emotional and personal skills of our students.

The school is at an exciting stage of its development with a new Sports Hall and Theatre being built and the refurbishment of Charnwood, our Post 16 Centre, due for completion by the end of the year.  This development is a part of our commitment to ensuring that the school has excellent facilities, all that you would expect from a school of the 21st century, to help provide pupils with the skills, knowledge and self-confidence necessary to face the challenges of the future.

As a school we have high expectations of our students and enable them to be not only academically successful but caring young people who are prepared to take on the responsibilities and opportunities of adult life.

The Governors, staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school and we believe that the achievement of children is greatly enhanced through positive participation with parents and the wider community.  We value the quality of relationships that we build and we value the rich variety of backgrounds and experiences that our students bring to the school.

Thank you for visiting our website

    Library

All Cotham students and staff are automatically members of our school Library and Information Centre. Our building opened for use on 2nd October 1998, and is well equipped and well used. We are open from 8.15 am until 4.45pm on Mondays to Thursdays and from 8.15am until 3.00pm on Fridays.

With access to over 12,000 books, 20 computers and other information sources, we aim to support the curriculum and recreational reading needs of the whole school community. Students and parents are valued library helpers and undertake a range of useful tasks – if you are interested in joining the library gang do come to find out more.

We also run a stationery shop where you can buy A4 paper, ball point pens, compasses, dictionaries, erasers, files, graph paper, highlighters ……..USB pens … (zinc or zebras would be of doubtful use to the “customers” but we may get right to the end of the alphabet one day!)

The most popular book in the library has to be The Guinness Book of Records – it beats all those Harry Potters, Alex Riders and all of the Jacqueline Wilson books. There is always a race for the new edition of the Guinness book when it arrives each October.

October is also the month of our annual “Book Week” – watch this space for more details nearer the time.
