Staple Hill Primary School, Bristol:
Staple Hill Primary School, Bristol: one of the best primary schools in Bristol

Staple Hill Primary School, Bristol

Welcome to Staple Hill where we are committed to providing a curriculum that is engaging, enriching and exciting.
It is a school

  • where our children feel safe, respected and cared for
  • where everyone feels it is appropriate to take risks and relish challenges in order to learn.
  • where we want all our pupils to develop their individual gifts and talents to the full
  • where all children are valued members of the school and the wider community.

We seek to operate an “open door” policy, which means that we welcome children and adults alike to share concerns and worries.  It is important that an appointment is sought wherever possible so that everyone gets an opportunity to talk to us.

At Staple Hill we welcome our parents as partners so together we can promote high standards of work and behaviour.  We also welcome your involvement in all areas of school life.

The school covers the age ranges from 4 - 11 years within the infant and juniors departments which are known as Key Stage 1, 4 - 7 year olds and Key Stage 2, 7 - 11 year olds. We also have a nursery unit which takes children after their 3rd birthday for the year prior to them starting school.

This website will give you an overview of the school but nothing beats talking - so if you have any questions please either phone, send an email or come in and see us.

Staple Hill Primary Nursery Admissions

We are able to admit children to Nursery once they become three years of age. This will usually be for the year before they are due to attend Primary School. Sometimes, we are able to offer a child a place during they year as they become 3, depending on availability of places.

If you are interested in a Nursery place, you will need to complete a South Gloucestershire Application Form. These can be obtained from the school office and are available form the September of the year prior to your child starting (eg if your child is eligible to start Nursery in September 2007, you need to complete a from in September 2006). Forms need to be in by 15th December 2006.

South Gloucestershire’s criteria for admission to Nursery classes is also available in the school office.

If a Nursery class place is offered it will be for 5 sessions a week (5 mornings or 5 afternoons; 9.00 – 11.30 am or 12.40 – 3.10 pm respectively). The place in the Nursery will utilise the full entitlement to the Nursery Education Grant so funding will not be available for any other nursery education provision.

If you would like to find out more or visit the Nursery, please telephone 01454 867240.

UNIFORM

Uniform is sold by members of the Friends of the School and is sold in the school hall which is straight through the main entrance and past the secretary's office.

School uniform is available on Friday afternoons at 3 o'clock.

We are very keen that children should wear school uniform and so although these are the most convenient times for us, and we would welcome your co-operation, we will make sure that you can purchase uniform at other times should you not be able to accommodate our arrangements. In this case please contact Anne Collins the school bursar on the main school number.

Girls Uniform
Winter - Black or grey skirt, pinafore or black or grey trousers
White blouse or polo shirt
Green jumper, sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece
Sensible black shoes
Summer - Green striped/checked dress

Boys Uniform
Winter - Black or grey trousers
White shirt or polo shirt
Green jumper, sweatshirt or fleece
Sensible black shoes
Summer - Black or grey shorts

If parents remember the purpose of uniform when providing school clothing it is really just common sense. We want children to be comfortable in practical clothes that do not draw attention to themselves. This is because we do not want school to be about fashion and we want to ensure that children do not engage in competitive dressing, which undermines equality of opportunity. We also feel we are a family and want to look similar. We also want to make life easier for parents. If you have any doubts please ask at the office.
There is a small supply of good quality second hand uniform which we would be delighted to make available to parents as appropriate.
