At Crown House, because we are small enough (never more than 140 pupils) and have time enough to care for and be aware of the needs of each and every child, we are able to put this into practice. About Crown House HISTORY

The school was established in High Wycombe in the nineteen twenties, and has occupied its present site for the major part of its life. It has enjoyed a high reputation with local people throughout its histor, and is now the only surviving independent day school in the town for both boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 11+. The combination of high standards of education and moderate fees has attracted children from across the social spectrum.

Academic Life

Crown House is a small school with never more than 140 pupils at any one time, and it is intented that it should remain so. Indeed this is, without doubt, our greatest resource, and ensures a caring, family atmosphere in which all children can feel relaxed and at home. The School is regularly inspected by OFSTED IT TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT The School has a fully equipped IT suite with over 20 laptops and every class in the school has its own computer facility. THE SCHOOL LIBRARY & BOOKSHOP The school has a large library and pupils are encouraged to use it regularly. There is also a small bookshop on site - again children are encouraged to use this facility regularly.

Culture

Regular visits are arranged to places of cultural, historical, geographical and scientific interest, as well as trips to theatres both locally and in London. During their final two years there is an opportunity for children to take part in a ski trip to the French Alps, where they have the opportunity to practise their French conversational skills on the local population. Music lessons are available for a variety of instruments and drama, art and craft are encouraged with the help of specialist teachers. Throughout their time at Crown House, each child is challenged and stimulated at his or her own level.

Sport

We believe it to be important that emphasis is placed not merely on the training of the natural athlete, but that every effort is made to help the less skilful enjoy taking a full part. The principal school games during the Autumn and Spring Terms are football and netball. In the Summer Term, a very full programme of athletics, rounders and cricket is undertaken and, as well as track skills, children are instructed in the use of javelin, discus, shot and highjump. All classes have P.E. lessons at least once a week. All children in the upper school go swimming fortnightly throughout the year at The Royal Grammer School. We place great emphasis on learning to swim at an early age and children are taught proficiency and survival techniques in order to obtain S.T.A. awards.

General Information

REPORTS In the first three years at Crown House, there are Open Evenings in the Autumn and Spring Terms, at which parents can discuss their children's progress with teachers. This is followed by a written end-of-year report in July. From Year Three (7/8 year olds) upwards, written reports are sent home twice yearly in February and July. There are Open Evenings immediately following the February report. CLASS SIZES There are sever classes in all, one for each age group, with seldom more than 20 pupils per class, and often fewer. The small size of classes is a key factor in promoting the close personal contact that children enjoy with their teachers and in ensuring that each child receives the individual attention and encouragement necessary for sustained progress and effective learning. In this environment, specific answers can be found for specific needs. FEES Fees are pitched competitively and, unlike most schools, there is not a big stepped increase between our fees in Reception and Year 6, and are approximately €2000 per term.
