Our Lady of the Missions
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The purpose of web site is to provide you with information regarding Our Lady of the Missions Primary School: its aims and objectives, organisation and administration, in order to facilitate your child’s transition to school.
EDUCATIONAL AIMS
It is the aim of everyone at Our Lady of the Missions to ensure that:
- There is a welcoming atmosphere and a positive ethos throughout the school, where all visitors and users of the service feel relaxed, comfortable and at ease;
- All children are educated in a safe, secure and happy environment;
- Each child is viewed as an individual with differing needs;
- An appropriate curriculum is offered to all children in the school on the basis of their individuality;
- Each child is helped to reach their maximum potential in all areas of their intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and emotional development;
- Independence in learning is fostered from primary one to primary seven in order that children will come to see and recognise the value in education and become masters of their own learning, with the appropriate skills and self confidence required to embark on independent study and discovery;
- Individual responsibility for self-discipline is promoted in order that children may come to realise and accept the need to be part of a caring school in which each and every member of the community holds a deep respect for one another and their personal well being and happiness;
- A strong partnership with parents is established and that they are kept fully informed and involved in their children's progress;
- Equality of opportunity is afforded to all users of the service, reflecting a philosophy of true inclusion;
- As a Catholic school tolerance and concern are fostered within the children for one another as part of a Community of Faith with deep respect for others.
- The work already started in the home of nurturing and developing the children's Catholic Faith is continued towards a fuller participation in the Sacramental life of the Church.
It must be remembered that education is a two-way process. Throughout her/his waking hours a young child is learning constantly, often unconsciously broadening knowledge and experience. As children spend most of their time in their home environment, opportunities for learning continually occur and parents/guardians who are aware of this fact can use such occasions to their children’s advantage.
The staff - teaching and non-teaching, are interested in your child’s welfare, as you are yourselves. If you have any doubts or problems, which are affecting your child’s progress, do not hesitate to inform the school. (Many problems result from a lack of, or incorrect information and are easily solved.)
The teaching staff will be pleased to discuss issues relating to your child. All visitors, however, should first come to the school office.
Parents of Primary 1 children may accompany them to the class area for the first few days.
At the outset of your child’s education we look forward to working with you in order that your child may enjoy a happy and fulfilling school life.
Yours Sincerely,
|
