Special Educational Needs at Benfield is about identifying a child's individual needs and providing support that allows them to meet their potential and enjoy their junior education. All the children in our care are valued for their individuality, the ways in which they contribute and the strengths that they bring to the classroom.

We have a team of Learning Support Assistants who are experienced in a range of Special Needs and have received training in the provision of specialist support. Leading this team is our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), Mrs Pilfold, who is always available to talk to parents and provide information, answer questions and suggest ways in which parents may wish to support their child at home. In addition, Benfield is supported by a team of professionals from agencies who advise on the identification of children with SEN and give suggestions on provision and suitable resources.

As well as supporting a child's educational needs, Benfield is also able to offer counselling, additional speech and language support and home/school liaison. This extra provision is coordinated by Mrs Pilfold and appointments can be made for parents to discuss the possibility of a referral.

Adult helpers are always welcome to assist in the support of pupils with SEN. Please contact the school is you are interested; no qualifications are required, just a willingness to help.
