Welcome to Bevendean Primary School

Our school logo, designed by the pupils. It depicts the trees in our grounds, the Downs which surround the school, and the sea - well, it is Brighton!

Bevendean Primary school, set in extensive grounds, is situated at the centre of a valley community, surrounded by beautiful downland.  The valley borders the north-east perimeter of Brighton, with only one access road.  This unique feature gives rise to a stable and natural catchment area, many of the children being second or third generation pupils.  We pride ourselves on our tranquil, unspoiled atmosphere.

The school is exceedingly spacious, with numerous specialist areas, including two libraries,a maths room, play room, music room and art room.  There are also two very large halls which open into one space, with a stage equipped to a professional standard.  We have a seperate dining area, wild life area and several play areas, both hard-surfaced and grassed, community facilities and a fully-equipped and up-to-date computer suite.

The staff and pupils at Bevendean work hard together in order to provide a caring and welcoming atmosphere.  The school has a well-developed behaviour policy and an anti-bullying policy, and uses a system of rewards and sanctions to develop children's self-esteem and understanding of right and wrong.

Children are encouraged to take pride in their work, with displays, exhibitions, concerts and class assemblies, and in weekly Effort Board assemblies.  There are a variety of activitiesprovided for the children both inside and outside the classroom with organised trips and visits.

Bevendean regards itself as a leading school in the area of community links and extended opportunities.  We were recently featured in the DFES Extended Schools Guidance, and continue to explore and implement additional provisions for the benefit of pupils, carers and the local community.  Links with adult education, health and early years partnership are well-established, together with breakfast clubsand after-school childcare.  We anticipate moving swiftly towards a 'full-service' model of education in the coming years.

Some views of the Fiction Library.  This light and airy room is designed to make choosing a book an enjoyable experience for the children.  The large catalogue of books means that there is something for each child to enjoy, from Nursery right through to Year 6.  New books are always being added - the most recent being the Anthony Horowitz "Alex Rider"  spy series - especially popular with the boys!

THE SOFT PLAY ROOM

Every class has at least one session a week in this room.  The children all look forward to their turn!
