All About Bowden House School
Bowden House is committed to supporting pupils who have experienced
difficulties in their past educational placements and we have high
expectations both of their behaviour and educational progress.
All pupils at Bowden House have a Statement of Needs for behavioural,
emotional and social difficulties which we endeavour to meet. The pupils are
taught in National Curriculum year groups with Years 7 & 8 in a lower school
unit and Years 9, 10 & 11 in main school. During the school year all teachers
work with each class covering the various subject areas. The classes follow
the national curriculum with a particular emphasise on curriculum enrichment
involving educational visits. At the end of Key Stage 3 the progress of each
pupil is assessed in English, Mathematics and Science. Each pupil will have
an Annual Review together with an Annual End of Term report where progress
is reported to parents and carers. From the summer term 2006 each pupil will
have an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which is an amalgamation of the
previous Individual Educational Plan and Individual Care Plan. In Year 10 & 11
pupils attend college link courses either locally, in their home area or both, in
addition to this they also have a period of work experience.
All pupils are assigned a form tutor who looks after them on a day-to-day
basis. The form tutor usually remains the same from Year 9 through to Year
11. All staff at Bowden House fulfil a vital role in the care of every pupil
Bowden House believe that the care, welfare, health and safety of the pupils
and staff are of paramount importance and to this end the school strives to
make the establishment as safe as possible and works hard to develop
pupils’ sense of responsibility for themselves and others.
