Deepdene School is a popular and successful co-ed school with 118 girls and 108 boys registered.

The school was founded in 1948 as a privately owned and managed school. More than half a century later Deepdene remains a truly independent school. The co-principals own the school. They are experienced, educational professionals who both manage and teach in the Nursery and Pre-Prep Departments.

Mrs Nicola Gane and Mrs Liza Clark-Darby take a personal interest in the development and well being of every child in their care. They are always available to speak with parents and encourage close links between school and home.

Deepdene is organised into three distinct, but fully integrated, departments that offer a unique continuum of care and education.

Children may enter Deepdene at the age of 6 months and remain in this secure and happy school until the age of 8 years.

Although it is a non-selective school, Deepdene pupils achieve consistently high academic results. Deepdene is a non-denominational school and welcomes children from many different faiths and cultures, whilst continuing to maintain its traditional link with the Christian church.

The ethos of, and teaching at, Deepdene school help children to become confident, competent, considerate and courteous individuals.

Many pupils leaving Deepdene at the age of eight years gain scholarships to their chosen Preparatory Schools.

NURSERY

Large, bright, airy rooms and well equipped outside play areas provide a safe and stimulating environment for both the toddlers and nursery children.

Staff to child ratios are in accordance with Ofsted guidelines.
The number of qualified staff exceeds Ofsted guidelines, ensuring the best possible childcare.

Consistency in care is a high priority at Deepdene. Children are cared for by the same staff each day. This helps children to feel secure and provides parents with
a regular point of contact.

All staff hold paediatric first-aid certificates.

Lunches and teas are cooked on
the premises and served in a ‘family’ atmosphere.

High quality, nutritious food is provided and special dietary requirements are catered for.

Structured and free play, creative activities, cookery, French and music sessions are all integral parts of their busy days

Daily record sheets for parents provide details of their child’s day (food eaten, nappies changed, naps taken, activities enjoyed etc.)

The fees are inclusive of milk, meals and nappies.

PRE-PREP DEPARTMENT

Small classes ensure that all pupils benefit from individual attention in every lesson.

• Caring, committed, qualified staff offer a stimulating and highly structured curriculum that places strong emphasis on the development of Literacy and Numeracy.

• Academic study is balanced with an exciting programme of Sport, Music, Languages, ICT, Art, Craft, Dance and Drama.

• Specialist teachers enthuse and inspire pupils.

• The broad curriculum offers pupils a breadth of experience. This helps them to develop a wide range of skills and encourages them to become self motivated learners, with enquiring minds.

• Throughout the school, teachers at Deepdene have both the time and resources to ensure that each, individual child fulfils his or her potential.

Ballet lessons are enjoyed by both Nursery and Pre-Prep children. Children in Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 enjoy weekly swimming lessons, with a qualified instructor.

All children enjoy playing a variety of instruments as part of the curriculum. Individual lessons are available to those who wish to further develop their musical skills.

Deepdene is a non-denominational school and welcomes children from many faiths and cultures. Assemblies encourage children to celebrate their festivals and share their beliefs and experiences with others at school.
