Hazel Court is a community specialist school for pupils who require an individual educational programme due to their learning difficulties. We always welcome visits to the school in person to see our unrivalled facilities and the teaching staff in action.

Hazel Court is officially designated as a school for children with complex needs including autism. This means that we cover the severe and profound learning difficulties range, but we are also now meeting the needs of an increasing number of pupils with educational needs in the moderate learning difficulties range.

Hazel Court has a well deserved reputation for providing its pupils with both an outstanding education and superb opportunities for integration.

The school is on two sites; Hazel Court School (our totally unique purpose built secondary school which is co-located with The Causeway School); and the Hazel Court School FE Department (another totally unique purpose built building, co-located with Sussex Downs College).

'Co-location' means that we share our facilities with another educational establishment (a mainstream secondary school, and an FE College) giving us 'the best of both worlds', with the specialist teaching only our highly experienced staff can provide plus superb and natural integration experiences.

If you would like to know more about Hazel Court, please read on! If you would then like to visit us, we look forward to hearing from you.

PSA

The Hazel Court School ‘Parents & Staff Association’ (known as the PSA) was formed in 1986 with the aim of fostering good relationships between the parents / carers and the staff, and raising funds to buy equipment and to fund activities not normally provided by the County Council.

All parents / carers who have a child at the school are automatically members of the PSA. Participation in meetings and at events is, of course, entirely voluntary.

Over the years, the PSA has held many events and has been very successful in its activities. These have included holding fund raising activities, social occasions, bar-b-q’s, jumble sales, fetes, coffee mornings, and so on.

The PSA raised funds to expand the physiotherapy provision at the school over a number of years, and more recently the PSA ran the Water Wing Appeal, helping to raise more than £350,000 to replace an old hydrotherapy pool with our superb new and modern pool which includes all the latest pupil operated sensory equipment.

The PSA also acts as a source of information for parents / carers and professionals, and holds open meetings on a variety of subjects. The PSA meetings also offer a forum for the discussion of ideas and any concerns, providing a direct voice to the Governors and the school management on behalf of parents / carers and staff. Offers of help and assistance are always very welcome.
