About Us
.
Our school is located in the small rural hamlet of Little Horsted, about one mile from Uckfield and six miles from Lewes. We are a small school with around 100 pupils divided up into four classes. The main school building dates from 1855 when the school first opened at Little Horsted. The school has provided an education service to the local rural community through to the present day |
Our school creates a secure family atmosphere for the children, and emanates a spirit of warmth and caring. This allows children to feel protected, and so to enjoy the experience of coming to school and learning. Children, teachers, parents and school governors all form part of a closely knit family. |
The school also forms an integral part of the life of Little Horsted and the nearby village of Isfield. Since 1971 it has been Isfield's primary school and is therefore fortunate to have strong links with the village life of Isfield and a partnership with the churches of St Margaret's, Isfield and St Michael and All Angels on our site at Little Horsted.
The buildings are situated in delightful countryside overlooking the East Sussex National Golf Course and the South Downs. Inside the school is a highly motivate community where pupils are encouraged to develop their full potential in a Christian, caring environment. |
We aim to help each child acquire a set of positive spiritual and moral values, to act as a guide to personal behaviour, and to help build caring and respectful relationships.
We encourage our children to gain confidence, work hard, learn to think independently and to experience the satisfaction that comes from personal achievement. Children are able to develop their skills and aptitudes to a level appropriate to their ability, within a curriculum that is broad and stimulating.

Little Horsted is a small rural hamlet in East Sussex. It is close to the rural towns of Uckfield and Lewes. The main buildings in Little Horsted are the church of St Michael and All Angels, Little Horsted Church of England School, Horsted Place and the East Sussex National Golf Club and Course.
Isfield is a small rural village close to Little Horsted. The Lavender line is located in the heart of Isfield. It is a haven for steam train enthusiasts and a popular attraction for tourists particularly at the weekend. The River Ouse and River Uck flow close to the village and it is well known by fishermen for the excellent fishing, hence the name of the local public house 'The Laughing Fish'. |
The school is linked closely with Isfield's church St Margaret's of Antioch. For many years the Curate in charge of the church has attended the bi-weekly Thursday assembly at the school. In the photograph some of the children can be seen Maypole dancing outside the church during a recent Flower Festival. The school take part in the following Sunday services, Harvest, Christingle, Mothering Sunday and each July a special Pet service (just like the one in the Vicar of Dibley). |
Isfield School Bus Children from Isfield can catch the school bus each morning and afternoon to and from the school. The coach drops the children off outside the school. Mrs Lorraine Watson our coach patrol lady collects the children from the morning coach and ensures that the children get safely on to the afternoon coach and that their seatbelts are secure. The coach departs from the school at 3.30pm and parents collect their children at each stop. |
Isfield Pre-School Groups
Many of the children who now attend Little Horsted School spent their pre school days at either Isfield Pre-school or Isfield Honeypot. Isfield Pre-school is located in the old Isfield village school building now the village hall near the recreation ground. Children from the age of three can attend the pre-school in the mornings and enjoy a whole host of interesting learning challenges and activities.
Isfield Honeypot is also located in Isfield and provides full care for both pre-school and other children before, during school times and after school. A pick up service is available from Little Horsted School and this ensures full wrap around care for children. If you would like more information about pre-school and after school providers in the area please contact Little Horsted School. | |

Drama Club ‘Horsted Players’
The Drama club is a very successful club run by Mrs Cottrell and Miss Freestone. The club is held during the preparations for a grand performance. The first show that the drama club produced was called ‘Jack and the Beansprout', the second ‘Shockwaves' which was based on the hit movie ‘Grease'! Interested children in Year 3 – 6 practised hard for this performance. They learned their lines brilliantly and also performed some challenging dance routines, including a routine to the hit single – Cha, Cha Slide. The third show to be performed was a performance of King of the Plains (our version of the Lion King) in July 2006.
Each child has a valuable part to play in the club in one form or another. Whether it is a speaking role, being a member of the ensemble cast – singing and dancing, or having technical responsibilities, such as lighting and sound. The older members of the club are responsible for choreographing dances, writing their own scripts and creating designs for advertising, etc.
