Roedean School

Roedean provides a stimulating academic education and exciting extra-curricular opportunities in a relaxed, supportive and friendly environment.

The girls are encouraged to be self-reliant, explore their talents and strive for excellence. They learn to:

  • develop their intellectual curiosity
  • make informed decisions
  • lead as well as to be part of a team
  • appreciate cultural diversity
  • enjoy learning and have fun

A young woman educated at Roedean will have respect for others and for herself. She will look forward to an interesting career, confident that she has the skills to balance the demands of her personal and professional life.

  • ENTRY TO THE SCHOOL

For entry at 11+, 12+, 13+, 14+ and Sixth Form, girls should be registered as early as possible in the academic year prior to their entry to the School.

All girls will be interviewed as part of the selection process and a satisfactory confidential report is required from the candidate’s current school.

Sixth Form entry is very competitive and girls should register as early as possible in the academic year prior to their entry to the school.

Sixth Form entry requires at least 55 points in GCSE or equivalent where A*=8, A=7 etc. and, ideally, a grade A in the subjects (or related subjects) that the candidate proposes to take at AS/A level. This may vary for some overseas qualifications.

Applications are also assessed on the basis of our Sixth Form entrance examinations in English and mathematics.

All girls will be interviewed as part of the selection process and a satisfactory confidential report is required from the candidate’s current school.

We hope that parents will make a personal appointment to meet the Headmistress and to see the school. In addition we hold two Open Mornings each year which give a general introduction to the school.

Discovery Day for 9 to 12 year olds is held during each Autumn Term to give candidates the opportunity to meet other girls looking to enter the school and to discover for themselves what Roedean has to offer.

    LIFE AT OUR SCHOOL

Each girl is given the time, encouragement, expert guidance and resources to use all her abilities to the full. We want the girls to develop the keen intellectual powers which will take them on to Higher Education and enable them to pursue successful careers. We also want them to explore the widest possible range of interests within and beyond the curriculum and to develop into thoughtful, kind and considerate adults. Underpinning all the academic and extra-curricular work is our unshakeable conviction that each girl’s achievements must be seen in the context of her own personal development and happiness. There will always be a steady hand to guide and help her as she negotiates the joys and challenges of adolescence. She will develop loyalty to her Team and will be supported by the trusting relationships she forms with her Housemistress, her friends, her tutor and other members of staff.
