CURRICULUM

We aim to provide a curriculum which develops the enjoyment of learning. It is committed to best possible progress and highest attainment for all children. It build’s on early learning, children’s experience, strengths and interests. Through personal, social and health education learning (PSHE) we promote self confidence and maintain a high sense of self esteem which is essential to learning.

We provide rich experiences which enable children to acquire, develop and apply a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills. We provide a curriculum which equips the children to be caring and responsible citizens enabling them to contribute towards the development of society at a personal, local, national and global level . We support children to value their own identity and the cultures and beliefs of others.

Religious education is provided in the curriculum according to the LEA agreed syllabus. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from daily assemblies.

We place the needs of all pupils high when planning our resources, children’s learning or time. We consider ourselves an inclusive school providing the needs for every child,. This enables all children to access the curriculum or wherever possible, the building itself. We have a non teaching Special Needs Coordinator who plans provision for pupils who need personal, emotional, social or physical support. At all stages of developing individual educational programmes, the Special Needs Coordinator will inform and work in partnership with parents, carers, special needs teaching assistants and other agencies. We have a teaching assistant specialising in relationships and a play coordinator who support children to manage their emotional and social needs. Makaton signing is used throughout the school supporting pupils to fully comprehend spoken language.

Children in the reception classes follow the curriculum requirements of the Foundation Stage. Each class plans, assesses and provides learning within 6 areas of learning; mathematical, language, literacy and communication, creative, knowledge and understanding, physical , personal, social and emotional development. Children in year 1 and year 2 follow the curriculum requirements of the National Curriculum and the National Strategy. This is called Key Stage 1.
