The Aims of the School

The Governors of the school, in consultation with the staff, have agreed that the basic intention of the school should be to provide high quality learning opportunities which enable each child to realise their true potential.
We specifically aim to:

To create a happy, friendly and safe environment where all children are encouraged to be courteous and respectful.
To develop and maintain a good relationship between home and school.
To ensure that all children are treated as individuals and have full access to the curriculum, whatever their needs.
To encourage curiosity and a thirst for knowledge by creating a stimulating and supportive
environment and delivering a varied and full curriculum.
To develop a moral and spiritual awareness with a tolerance and an understanding of all
the religions and all people.
To provide opportunities to experience and enjoy all areas of the curriculum and to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare pupils for their future challenges.

The school has seven single age group classes. The average class size is 30 but currently class sizes vary from 29(Yr.2) to 35 (Yr.6 ). In addition to the classteachers and a non teaching
Headteacher we have two part time members of staff. One teaches music throughout the school whilst the other supports, and provides supply cover when the need arises. Additionally there is over 200 hours of Teaching Assistant help.
In the Foundation Stage class there is one full time teacher and a teaching assistant.

The school buildings are all on one level and there is a sloped access to the Playground from the new double doors in the main building. We have three new classrooms.
In accordance with the requirements of the SEN Disability Act (Sept 02) our intention is to incorporate improved access to all areas of the school into any future plans.

We have a separate dining hall where the school meals are served, children have a choice of either a school meal or their own packed lunch. The meals at Westfield are supplied by an independent company called Initial and the Canteen staff are employed by Initial NOT the school.

The community Hall is a shared facility between the school and the local community. This provides the school with a fantastic opportunity to develop different areas of the curriculum outside the classroom setting. It is used for assemblies PE, drama, music and out of school activities.
