About Us...

Mrs Young
Welcome to Preston Primary School.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mrs Linda Young and I have been  Headteacher of Preston Primary School since January 2002.

I am very proud of the school; we have fabulous children with supportive parents and excellent staff. Preston Primary School is a very happy place to be with a warm, caring atmosphere and a positive attitude to hard work and to school improvement.

We had a positive Ofsted inspection in April 2002 and we have met all the targets in the Post Ofsted Action Plan; including our new library which is now up and running. This doesn’t mean we are complacent though; we are constantly looking at ways we can improve the school and what goes on inside it.

The aim of this site is twofold. Firstly it is to give new or prospective parents valuable information about the school and secondly it looks back over the past year to report on various aspects of school life .

I hope you find it interesting and informative but if there is anything you feel we might add in the future that would be of interest to parents, please let me know.

 Linda Young

UNIFORM

Girls:-
Grey/navy/black skirt or trousers, blue checked dress, grey pinafore dress.
White long or short sleeved polo shirt.
Navy sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan.

Boys:-
Grey/navy/black trousers or shorts
White long or short sleeved polo shirt.
Navy sweatshirt or jumper.

Almost all children wear this optional uniform, some of which we sell from the school office.  If this is not worn, parents are asked to send children in sober clothing avoiding unduly casual garments such as jeans, garish T shirts or track suits.  We also offer a school fleece and a reversible jacket; these can be ordered at the school office.

School shoes should be sensible and comfortable. We do not allow high heels as these are dangerous when children are playing outside.

P.E. kit

Indoor PE is normally undertaken in bare feet but parents may request that their children wear sandshoes or similar soft shoes if they have a foot complaint.  Trainers are not worn for normal indoor PE lessons.

Children should have a change of clothing for PE such as shorts and T-shirt.  Plain colours e.g. white top, navy shorts are encouraged.  Shorts must not be too long or baggy, and football tops or t-shirts with big logos on must not be worn. PE clothing should not be very loose fitting as this could be a safety hazard.

Trainers or plimsolls, shorts/jogging trousers, a plain t-shirt and jumper/sweatshirt should be worn for outdoor PE; football strips are not allowed.

Long hair should be tied back with a band and ear-rings removed or covered with micropore tape.  All articles of clothing which might be removed should be clearly marked with the owner’s name.  Name tapes can be ordered from school.

Jewellery (including watches)

Apart from watches, jewellery is not allowed in school for safety reasons.  If earrings are worn and cannot be removed they must be taped for P.E.  Consent forms are available from the school office.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Our School Council is made up of two nominated children from each class from years 2 to 6 and is supported by Mrs Dobson who is a teaching assistant.

The Council meet once a month to discuss issues that the children find relevant to school. So far we have looked at playground games, equipment and school meals.

We have also set up a successful School Buddy Scheme using volunteers from each class throughout the school
