TyneCastle High School

Welcome to the Tynecastle High School  website. I am very proud to have been appointed headteacher of Tynecastle High School, and hope that during my time here I will enable the school to grow and advance. I would like to see the school as a focus for the regeneration of its community as it continues to improve in attainment, achievement and ethos.

We are at the beginning of exciting times at Tynecastle, with the plans for the new school nearing completion, and many avenues for future development are opening up as a direct result. I know that the much improved environment and facilities will inspire pupils to learn and achieve, and I hope that we shall be able to forge much closer links with our neighbours in the community, with benefits for residents, pupils, teachers and parents alike.

Even while we remain in the old building, we are continuing to innovate and renew. Tynecastle is active in the development of Assessment is for learning, Enterprise in the classroom, Health Promotion, Eco-Schools, and we are currently examining the implications for our teaching and learning practice of A curriculum for Excellence.

These strategies, and others that will evolve in the course of the coming years, will ensure that pupils at Tynecastle High School receive the highest quality of education, and are inspired, encouraged and supported to achieve as much as they are capable of. We shall not concentrate narrowly on curricular subjects, but look at the wider aspects of contribution to the school and the community, such that our pupils emerge as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
