Welcome to the Friar's Grove Junior School!.Front of school

We are an eight class junior school in the north of Colchester serving the St John's area. The school was built in 1966 and since then has undergone many improvements, most recent and notably is the computer suite, learning support centre, library and wildlife garden. The school has been Ofsted inspected and were judged to be "a good school with many strengths."

The school was awarded the School Achievement Award 2002 and 2003 for ensuring that standards rose, particularly in end of year SAT tests. The Basic Skills Agency has also recognised the achievements of the school in ensuring a high standard of basic numeracy and literacy by awarding it a Quality Mark.

As part of our aim to increase participation in physical activity clubs are run either at lunchtime or after school and will be run by members of staff for no extra charge. Clubs that take place outside will be dependent on the weather and will cancelled if conditions are unsuitable. If you are unsure whether the club will go ahead or not, please ring the school office on the afternoon in question. Spaces at each club are limited and are awarded on a first come, first served basis. We do try to make sure as many children as possible get the chance to attend a club but if there is not enough space for all, children may be placed on a waiting list for the next round of clubs.

The links here are for the various Year groups pages, so that you can see what has been happening across the school. There are also a couple of pages that contain links to recommended sites for children to play and learn. Most of these links have been chosen by the children themselves, and certainly tested by them.
