"We want our school to be a safe, happy, purposeful environment where everyone is valued, learning is fun and achievements are high."

We are pleased to welcome you to the Phoenix school web site. Due to the amalgamation of the infant and junior schools in September 2003, we now are able to offer education for children from three and a half to eleven years of age in the one school.

Our school has 14 spacious and well-equipped classrooms, two large halls, and a recently upgraded computer suite. We have computers in each classroom with Internet access. Each KS2 and Foundation Stage Class have Interactive White Boards and all classes will have Interactive White Boards by the end of the summer term. The school also has a dance and music studio.

We have 2 playgrounds, each with an Adventure Playground as well as seating areas. There are gardens at the front and at the rear of the building. There is an extensive well equipped fenced off outside area used by the nursery and reception classes. Work has been completed on a link between the two schools and the school office has been remodeled.

All children will be able to go to their classrooms at: 8.45am

CURRICULUM

The three links below will take you to a page with subject related educational games to play and learn.

During the course of each Academic Year the children receive a balance of content across the Primary Curriculum. The school is currently reviewing the content of the curriculum by drawing links with subjects in order to imbed concepts, learning and ideas. The school has worked hard to use dance in the curriculum to teach other non core subjects. The extensive curriculum that we offer the children contains within it the requirements of the National Curriculum in Mathematics, English, Science, Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Religious Education and Physical Education.

links for each year

The Core Subjects of the National Curriculum, English, Maths and Science, are given particular significance and emphasis throughout the School with the Literacy Hour and Numeracy Lessons being taught each day.

The School has two classes in each year group. This enables us to keep class sizes at acceptable levels. A Teaching Assistant supports each class in the morning and then works with SEN children and target groups in the afternoon.

A copy of our Whole School Curriculum Plan from aged 4 to 11 year olds is available in the entrance lobby of the school.

Clubs

We offer a variety of clubs at lunch times and after school. These include:

Athletics
Breakfast club
Homework
Street dancing
Japanese drumming
Games
Computer

SPECIAL NEEDS

Work is planned weekly as well as daily and account is taken of pupils differing abilities. The more able child's curriculum is extended. Teaching Assistants specifically work with SEN children in the afternoons and help children address their individual targets. We will consult you if there is any cause for concern about your child's progress. You will be actively involved in the process to ensure your child is given the appropriate learning support. This may include a more structured learning programme. Their particular needs will be assessed and programmes put into place in consultation with you, class teachers and the special needs coordinator
