Welcome to Rayleigh Primary School!!!

We strongly believe that children who feel secure, cared for and valued will work to their full potential. Our pastoral care system is based upon these principles linking individual contributions to create a learning community. The relationships we create between teacher and child and our active School Council continually renew this focus on learning.

At Rayleigh, we believe every child is special, possessing a blend of talents. We endeavour to celebrate their learning throughout the curriculum. Thus we celebrate children with talents across the curriculum and are proud to have played a part in the lives of children that go on to greater things. To date we have collaborated with parents to encourage a championship skater, entrants to Grammar School, an entrant to the Canterbury College of Music and entrants to the Royal Ballet School.

However, all talents require practice and it is normal for some children to struggle to attain in certain areas. Based upon a sound understanding of learning theory, our Special Needs procedures offer support to children who need it.

Rayleigh Primary happily welcomes all children and helps them achieve their dreams.

UNIFORM

Ethos:

Rayleigh Primary School, its children and adults, is an extension of the community it serves, its beliefs, aspirations and achievements. As this community grows through access to the wider world so must the aims of our school grow to meet the diversity of opportunities offered to our children. Recognition of this diversity and a commitment to the individual lies at the heart of our philosophy.

We envisage our Primary Education as encompassing four key cross curricular strands: -

Core Skills:

The acquisition of logical cognitive skills, developed through science, literacy and numeracy.

Research Skills:

The independence of learning and presentation through the skills of ‘finding out’. This information acquisition lies within the ‘humanities’ but also includes ICT.

Creative Skills:

The conveyance of meaning through considered and creative expression of their opinions through the ‘arts’.

Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Skills (PSHCE):

The teaching of children to be confident, respectful, tolerant, charitable, healthy, fit and demonstrating care and concern for their world and its inhabitants.

These expectations and the ethos we promote exist to enable every child to share in an education that is rich, varied, challenging and inspiring, that enables them, by becoming independent learners, to fulfil their potential to the highest possible standard.

How our curriculum looks to Children.

Wherever possible we infuse English and Maths through themes we call modules. Our modules are either Creative, Research PSHCE or Science in nature.

PTA

The Association aims to raise funds for "extras" not provided by LEA funds. In so doing, we run

social events throughput the year, involving parents, staff and children. Many of these events such

as the Christmas bazaar and summer fete have become regulars in the school calendar, and help maintain our school's wonderful community atmosphere.

Every parent/carer is automatically a member of the Association. We are a registered charity,

which gives us access to Gift Aid and Charity fund matching schemes.  We are also members of

the NCPTA, a national organisation supporting PTA's.

In recent years we have funded major projects around the school including replacement water fountains, reception playground equipment and the pergola and block paving leading to the

garden area.  We have purchased smaller items eg. cooker for the nursery, playground games for lunchtimes.  Other annual commitments are refreshments at both the pantomime and sports days

and Year 6 leavers Recollection books.

PROSPECTUS

Past

We are delighted that you are considering sending your child to Rayleigh Primary School. There has been a school in Love Lane for over one hundred years and we are proud of this long association with the people of Rayleigh. The school originally served the town and the surrounding villages of the rural community. The Victorian buildings are living history echoing with the happy voices of those long left. In talking to ‘Old Rayleighians’ we realise the school holds all the virtues that give it a special place in the memories of so many in the town. Families still ask how their house is performing at sports day and tell us of the cups they won as children. They remember our choirs performing at the area music festivals and taking great delight in singing to the local community. Finally, the panoramic view from the school over the historic Mount, Holy Trinity Church and the Windmill still inspires the artists in the school to capture the very essence of their town. The Governors, staff and I, aim to keep ‘Love Lane’ at the heart of the community of Rayleigh, reflecting the aspirations of its people and our pupils.

Present

Rayleigh Primary School is a two form entry school with an annual intake of sixty children. This means we have no mixed aged classes within the school. We offer a broad, balanced curriculum that covers all the requirements of the National Curriculum. The high standards of the past continue to the present and the school enjoys standards in testing that consistently outperform the national average. However, we offer more. Based upon the solid foundations established in our Early Years teaching, we emphasise Research, Personal-Social-Health Education, Creativity and Core Learning skills to ensure every child prospers in our school. These elements drawn from our exemplary Nursery Provision, with its wonderful outside learning environment, lead to a persistent ‘desire for learning’ throughout the school. This ‘will to learn’ is met in the modernised school by investing in high quality resources including the new Hall, new Reception Classes, Dance Drama Studio, Computer Suite, Research Library, Music Room and Swimming Pool. Our latest investment is in our playground, where new adventure equipment, an outdoor classroom, mural and memorial garden allow the children to work together to value the environment. The support of our community to the ethos of the school enables such successes; this commitment gained the school the prodigious Healthy School and Investors in People Awards.

Future

The future is bright for Rayleigh Primary School. Recent expenditure on modernising the buildings shows the school to be ready for new challenges.

Advances in technology continue to be a focus for the school. We are investing in new Interactive Whiteboard and CD ROM technology. The dream is for every child in the school to capture their learning on CD ROM. This exciting innovation captures the imagination as it conjures up a time when all can look back on their school days through digital video, held on CD ROM. As a Broadband enabled school we are a breath away from showing videoed highlights of the school year through a password protected website. By developing its own record of events in this way, Rayleigh Primary intends to continue to capture the living History of Rayleigh Town.

The school has attained the habit of winning local and national competitions. We will continue to strive to keep the winning habit, achieving at every level.

The school is involved in research for the National College of School Leadership. Soon to be published this illustrates the role schools can play in community, creativity and personalisation of learning. How the school family contributes to success for every child.

Valuing the Individual Child

We strongly believe that children who feel secure, cared for and valued will work to their full potential. Our pastoral care system is based upon these principles linking individual contributions to create a learning community. The relationships we create between teacher and child and our active School Council continually renew this focus on learning.

At Rayleigh we believe every child is special, possessing a blend of talents. We endeavour to celebrate these talents and are proud to have played a part in the lives of children that go on to greater things. To date we have collaborated with parents to encourage a championship skater, entrants to Grammar School, an entrant to the Canterbury College of Music and an entrant to the Royal Ballet School.

However, all talents require practice and it is normal for some children to struggle to attain in certain areas. Based upon a sound understanding of learning theory, our Special Needs procedures offer support to children who need it.

Thus, Rayleigh Primary happily welcomes all children and helps them achieve their dreams.

Being A Part of Rayleigh Primary School

For many families, identifying with ‘Love Lane’ is an important part of school life. Our pupils are expected to maintain the traditions of the school. We believe our school uniform is smart, practical and creates a sense of community. Our children are recognised in the town and their exemplary behaviour receives positive comment. This recognition continues in the wider community and we are proud our children are praised on school trips. The warm welcome for the school includes the School Journey in Year 6 and the high esteem the school enjoys is a matter every child can be proud of.

The Governors and Parent Teacher Association actively support the school. Both welcome the continued contribution of parents to enhance learning within the school. Furthermore, the school has links with local employers and welcomes enquiries from potential partners in the community. This desire to build a community of learners is evidenced by our strong links with our local secondary schools who extend our language and technology provision.

If you are interested in joining Rayleigh Primary, we invite you to visit the school where you will receive a warm welcome and have the opportunity to discuss the future of your child.
