Welcome to Runwell Community Primary School

The school was built in the late 1960’s and is situated in Runwell Village, just outside Wickford.  The buildings offer excellent accommodation (despite being built in the 60’s!) and have benefited from a major external refurbishment.

There are two spacious buildings linked by a covered way.  Facilities include:

·        Large classrooms with interactive whiteboards

·        Fully equipped ICT Suite

·        Two halls (a real luxury for a primary school!) which are used for PE, drama, music, assemblies and performances (of which there are several throughout the year)

·        An early years unit with a new outdoor play area

The grounds are extensive and attractive. There is a field, two playgrounds surrounded by grassed areas, a quiet area and adventure play equipment.

At Runwell we think it’s really important that children are given the chance to experience a wide range of opportunities in addition to the usual school curriculum.  As a result we have introduced a variety of different clubs that cover areas such as:

  • A wide range of sports
  • Dance
  • Playground games
  • Chess
  • Choirs and opportunities to learn musical instruments
  • Foreign Languages
  • Computing
  • Literacy, including Bookworm
  • Maths
  • Science

The children are highly enthusiastic about these activities and clubs are well attended. The range of clubs on offer varies each term but there is always something for every age group.

School Teams

We currently have school teams for Netball, Football, Cricket, Tennis and Athletics. These teams have matches with other schools.  We play at home and sometimes away. We don’t always win, but we certainly try hard to!

The children at Runwell Community Primary are all special, but for those who require extra help or provision our aim is to promote a happy school environment that provides positive inclusion and strives for excellence in all fields.

All the teachers at Runwell work closely with the Special Needs

Coordinator (SENCo), and her team of motivated and inspirational

teaching assistants to provide a good quality of education for

each child, tailored to their individual needs.

Each child on our “Special Needs Register” is given an “Individual

Education Plan” that details achievable targets on a termly basis.

The child is helped to work towards these targets both during whole

class lessons, as well as in small group and individual sessions with the SENCo

and teaching assistants.

The aim of SEN at Runwell is to provide a fully rounded education.  Thus purely academic studies are in addition to our highly successful “Motor Skills Club”, and more recently a handwriting club and a computer club, all of which take place during the school day.  Children taking part in these initiatives are already reaping the benefits.

We try to identify children experiencing difficulties as early as possible in their school career.  We encourage parents to be closely involved in supporting their child, and for this reason the SENCo is readily available to discuss any worries or problems; just give the office a call to arrange an appointment.

Runwell is a school where children of all backgrounds and abilities are given the opportunity to develop their talents within a strong caring community.
