Hello from the Head

Welcome to St. Andrew’s Junior School. I hope you find our web site interesting and informative. It is designed to give children, parents and others interested in the school as much information as possible, as well as providing a valuable link between home and school.

Our school is a very happy one and everyone works very hard to create a friendly, stimulating and caring environment where people are valued and where good citizenship is as important as academic achievement.

We have a skilled and enthusiastic staff who are dedicated and committed to provide the best possible education for each child.

Every member of the school community is encouraged to be proud of their own and the school's achievements and this is one of the reasons why St. Andrew's is a succesful and popular school.

We are always striving to improve and we welcome suggestions for how we can develop what we do now to make it even better in the future, so please contact us if you have any ideas.

I hope that all the children enjoy their time at St. Andrew's and work hard to fulfill their potential. I also hope that parents view the education of their child as a partnership between home and school and involve themselves in the life of the school whenever possible. By working together we can acheieve a great deal.

Jeremy Crook

ADMISSIONS

The published admission number for the school is 60.

Where applications for admission exceed the published admission number the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit first:

1. The child resides within the Ecclesiastical Parishes of either Hatfield Peverel or Ulting.
2. The child attends Hatfield Peverel Infant School and …
i. … has a brother or sister currently attending St. Andrew’s Junior School who will still be attending on the proposed date of admission.
ii. … has a brother or sister who has attended St. Andrew’s Junior School, but who will not be attending on the proposed date of admission.
iii. … has not had a brother or sister who has attended St. Andrew’s Junior School.
3. The child does not attend Hatfield Peverel Infant School and …
i. … has a brother or sister currently attending St. Andrew’s Junior School who will still be attending on the proposed date of admission.
ii. … has a brother or sister who has attended St. Andrew’s Junior School, but who will not be attending on the proposed date of admission.
4. There are medical grounds (supported by a doctor’s certificate) for admitting the child.
5. Proximity of the child’s home to St. Andrew’s Junior School, using a straight line distance from the mid-point of the main pedestrian gate, with those living nearer being accorded the higher priority.

More details of our admission arrangements are available from the school office.

If your child is refused a place at our school you do have a right of appeal to an independent statutory appeal committee. Your appeal should be addressed to the Clerk of the Appeal Committee, c/o Hatfield Peverel, St. Andrew’s Junior School, Church Road, Hatfield Peverel, CM3 2JX

If your application is refused (whether you appeal or not) a waiting list for admission will be maintained in order of priority according to the admissions criteria.

We make every effort to ensure the smooth transfer of children from their previous school. Parents of our new intake will be invited to a meeting at the school during the summer term. A further opportunity to look round the school will be offered during the open evening in the summer term.

During the Spring and Summer terms the children at Hatfield Peverel Infant School visit the school at playtimes, watch assemblies and meet their teachers.

The two schools have established many links. We hold training days and staff meetings together, and we take every opportunity to work collaboratively so we can develop our approaches to teaching and so ensure continuity in the delivery of the curriculum and the assessment of pupils.

Prospective parents are very welcome to make their own arrangements to visit the school and speak to the Headteacher, or class teachers, at any convenient time. Please contact the school office to make an appointment.
