Welcome to St. Michael's School

St. Michael's is an independent Church of England Preparatory School for 300 girls and boys aged from 3 -11 years.

Our school motto "Non quis, sed quid" - not who (you are), but what (you are), underlies our basic principles and Christian ethos, which pervades school life.

The aim of our website is to give you a brief taste of the school and a flavour of what we are all about. This is no substitute for coming to visit us and I hope that you will contact us for a Prospectus and to arrange a visit, when I would be delighted to meet you and show you around.

St. Michael's School
Ages 3 - 11 years

"The school has many strengths and it successfully achieves its aims and objectives. It meets the pupils’ needs in fulfilling their academic potential, providing good teaching, inculcating valuable learning habits, and promoting all-round personal development. School leadership and management are excellent, teachers and non-teaching staff are committed to their responsibilities, provision of pastoral care is outstanding, and the partnership with parents is secure."
Extract from Independent Schools Inspectorate Report - January 2006

Welcome to St. Michael's School Nursery, an important part of our School family.

Children start in Nursery in the September after their third birthday. Places fill quickly so we advise early registration as it's never too early to start thinking about your child's future. At St. Michael's we offer an excellent, yet affordable, start to your child's education and we accept Nursery Vouchers for all 3 and 4 year olds.

All children in Nursery attend every morning from 8:30am - 11:55am. Children may attend for the whole day on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays (part-time) or every day (full-time). Children attending for the whole day finish at 3pm.
The children in Nursery enjoy being a part of the whole school and particularly welcome joining everyone in a whole school assembly each week. Older siblings take great pride in seeing their younger brothers and sisters join in the stories, songs and prayers.

Qualified staff ensure that the children are being given the best start in life in a happy and safe environment. At the end of the year, the children are ready to go up into Reception with enthusiasm and assurance.

OFSTED inspect the Nursery provision regularly and on their last visit confirmed that St. Michael's School offers high quality education, which helps children make very good progress towards the early learning goals. Please click here to view the latest OFSTED report.

Children who have not been through Nursery at St. Michael's may start in Reception in the September after their fourth birthday. Reception children attend for the whole day from 8:30am - 3:15pm.

Children in Nursery and Reception are building the foundations for their future and as such they follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum. This covers the following six early learning goals in a happy blend of work and play:

  • Personal, social and emotional development

  • Communication, language and literacy

  • Mathematical development

  • Knowledge and understanding of the world

  • Physical development

  • Creative development
