Staples Road County Infant School was built in 1906. The school is pleasantly situated on the edge of Epping Forest and the location of the school offers the children many opportunities for environmental education.
The attractive Victorian design of the school incorporates three levels. There are seven classrooms in the main building, one in the Junior School and one additional demountable classroom in the playground. All classrooms are carpeted with craft areas for artistic activities and "book corners", where children may enjoy looking at books in comfort.
The assembly hall is well equipped for physical education and is also used for daily collective worship, drama, music and concerts.
We have been pleased to develop two library areas: one opposite the Headteacher's Study and the main library, which is situated in the downstairs Entrance Hall. These areas house a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books and the children are encouraged to browse, to look for information and to care for the books,
The playground area has many colourful and interesting designs upon which the children can play. A play area with all-weather play surface and attractive climbing apparatus affords the children an enriching and active experience. We are also developing areas of shade for the children, as we are aware of the effects of the sun on children's skin.
The dining hall, with joint kitchen, is housed in a separate building and is shared by the adjoining Junior School. |
