Ysgol Gymuned y Ffridd, Gwalchmai

Dear parents,

Choosing the right school for your child is vitally important. Most parents want a good education for their children but they also want them to be happy and to feel safe and secure. At Ysgol y Ffridd we believe we can offer all these things. We pride ourselves on the broad, balanced and full education we provide. We are proud of the atmosphere of friendliness and co-operation which is always evident.

Many visitors to the school comment on the warm welcome  they receive at our school.

We value our pupils and we believe that their time in school should be rewarding and fulfilling. Should you choose to send your child to Ysgol y Ffridd I am fully confident that you will have made the right decision. I look forward to meeting you soon, and if you have any queries or concerns please contact me at school at  any time.

                                Yours sincerely,

                                    Mairwen B. Roberts

The junior children went to the Urdd's disco in October. Everyone had an enjoyable time.

The Urdd Christmas party was held at the school on Thursday, December 12th. With plenty of food and music everyone enjoyed themselves. We also had fun playing party games. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the party.

The band 'Chaconne Brass' came to hold a brass instrument and percussion workshop in the school hall during the Autumn term.  It was very interesting and everyone enjoyed themselves!

Following the workshop a group of year 5 & 6 girls went to watch 'Chaconne Brass' performing in Bodedern Secondary School. A child from our school won a prize for making her own instrument. She received a tape of the band's songs.

Here are the girls showing off their instruments.

The television programme 'Ffeil' came to film years 5 & 6 for a news item about the Wales V Italy football game. The school hall looked extremely bright and colourful, decorated in flags and banners.

On November 15th we enjoyed a variety of activities to raise money for Children In Need. Including the Thanksgiving collection and other activities on the day, the school raised £250 for the charity.

Here are some of the infants wearing their fancy dress costumes.

Thank you to everyone who contributed.

The junior classes enjoyed a visit to Shotton Paper Mill and the Chronicle Printing House during the Autumn term. We saw how wood and waste paper are broken down into a pulp, cleaned and processed to make paper. Following this we went to see the 'Holyhead and Anglesey Mail being printed. It was an extremely interesting experience.
