Sandwickhill School - A Historical Background
SANDWICKHILL SCHOOL was formally opened on the 7th April 1880 by the Rev. James Greenfield. William Fraser was the first headteacher.
Attendances were adversely affected by outbreaks of measles, whooping cough and fever as well as agricultural work. On 13th January 1888, however, the headteacher reported that attendance was good throughout the week except for Monday afternoon when pupils took leave to spectate at the Aignish Riots.
The original building is in good condition and is still in daily use. Over the years rooms have been added to cope with educational needs.
