Bredgar School is a Church of England Primary school situated in Kent, which was originally built in 1868, and draws children not only from the village itself but from the surrounding area. The school has extensive and beautiful grounds. There is a large field used for games and playtimes in good weather; a safe, enclosed tarmac playground; two pond areas and a well maintained garden for flowers, vegetables and wild plants.

We have a reputation for providing good quality education and are well supported by parents and friends through our PTA organisation, Friends Of Bredgar School (or FOBS). The school is proud of its links with local business and institutions which help to provide the breadth of experiences needed for children growing up in the present technological age.

OUR SCHOOL

We aim to provide a safe environment to encourage children to respect one another, learn and work together, and to help each other throughout the school.

Cross-curricular Topics

We aim to make links through the core and foundation subjects to encourage children to undertsand a purpose to their learning. We have many links with parents and the community to promote this way of learning.

Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

The children have a very enriched curriculum which involves the study of foreign languages, such as French and Spanish, from when they arrive in Reception through to Year 6.

Garden

At our school we are very lucky to have a beautiful garden area with two ponds.  This is tended largely by Margaret one of our very important Grandmothers. There is a gardening club which takes place for the Beaver class children to attend.

Clubs

Scrabble Club - takes place on Mondays from 3:30 to 4:15 for Beaver class pupils only. This is run by Mrs Ryan.

Art Club - takes place on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:00 for Key Stage 2 pupils only. This is run by Mrs Bronger.

Netball Club - takes place on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:15. This is a chance for Key Stage 2 children to practice netball skills. Boys as well as girls are encouraged to go along. Mrs Fa'avale takes netball.

Football training - takes place on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:15 for Key Stage 2. Girls as well as boys are encouraged to go along. Mr Whitehead is Bredgar's coach and manager.

Bredgar School Choir - takes place on a Tuesday lunchtime, from 12:30 to 1:00. For all Key Stage 1 and 2 children.

Gardening Club - takes place on a Friday lunchtime, from 12:30 to 1:00 for Beaver children only. This is run jointly by Mrs Cummins and Mrs Bronger.

Church

Right next door to our school is the St John the Baptist Church.  We feel that it is important for our pupils to go to the Church as often as possible.  Therefore assemblies take place in the Church as well as visits to the Church to enhance the pupils learning.

Village

The school is situated in Bredgar Village, home to a number of our pupils, a garage, the Post Office, the Farm Shop and the Sun Pub.  As part of the schools' Geography and History curriculum, walks around the village are frequently made.
