CHATSWORTH INFANT SCHOOL
Chatsworth Infant School opened in January 1974, was extended in September 1984 and again in September 1991 to accommodate a nursery class. The school is pleasantly situated on a site bounded by Sidcup Golf Course and an area of private housing.
The school building consists of six infant classrooms, a nursery, a library and resource areas, a computer suite, a kiln room, a hall, kitchen, staffroom and administrative offices. Outside areas provide grassed and hard surfaced playing facilities and a Premises Manager's house is on site.
In accordance with current Bexley policy, children enter as rising fours to the Nursery (Foundation Stage) and rising fives to the Foundation Stage in the Infant Department. At seven, most children transfer to Burnt Oak Junior school, some four hundred yards away. Application must be made to the Junior School in order to gain a place as there is no automatic right of transfer. Our admission number for 2001/2002 is 60 pupils. This will mean two classes of 30 pupils in keeping with the requirements for classes to be no more than 30 at Key Stage One.
Parents are extremely supportive of the school and a very active Parents' Association exists. A strong home/school relationship is encouraged.
The staff work closely together and foster a friendly, caring atmosphere in which children are valued as individuals and involved in their own learning.
Our overall objective is to create a happy, purposeful atmosphere in which each child is given the scope to develop and work to the maximum of his/her ability.
Mrs Cheffings is our Head Teacher.
